| Can anyone here that has modified GG mags for the AR give me any info/dimensions on the jig to squeeze down the top section of the mag to fit into the AR magwell? I have one modified mag, but I'd like to modify a few more for my 45 build. |

I made one. No jig used. You need to remove most if not all of the reinforcement plate around the top of the mag. Some guys leave it double thickness over the feed lips but the extra material on the side of the mag must be removed. Then stick the top of the mag in a table vice and slowly squeeze. Go alittle at a time and keep testing by inserting the mag into the magwell and by inserting the follower to make sure you don't squeeze too much. Pain in the ass and I won't be doing anymore. Easier to get a Cav Arms, BAZ45, MGI or an AR45 lower and use unmodified mags. |

I'm going to give it a try. I made some mag extensions and I think I'll make a mandrel to slide up inside of the mag body when I squeeze it down. Picture is of my existing mag and one of my extensions. Once I get the right thickness for the mandrel sorted out I should be able to make as many as I need. Whoever made my existing mag shaved down both sides of the follower so it would fit in the narrow portion.

The mag you have there was made by a guy named Jay Emde and sold by his old company, Dalphon. They were sold with an Olympic .45 upper, desribed as a Dalphon part, about ten or so years back. Dalphon is no longer in business (not exclusively because of that practice), though I believe Mr. Emde is out of prison now. Google his name-- it makes fascinating reading. |

I managed to get one mag modified. I learned a lot about how not to do things on this one . It locks up into a receiver and seems like it'll feed bullets as well as my other one. My first mistake was peeling the sheet metal cover off. The mag body distorted where the spot welds were and I had to straighten it back out. Next time I'll either grind or mill the spot welds away to avoid this. I gave it a coat of Norrells, but will probably have the others parkerized. |
