I am split between these to. I will be using it in a dedicated 9mm. Thoughts??? |
|
I have two Hahn dedicated blocks and they are much less than stellar pieces of equipment. The only thing worse in the 9mm market right now in my opinion is CProducts 9mm mags. The Hahn block take some fitting in the ejector department to really get 100% reliability from them and then that is only with round nose ammo. Flat nose like American Eagle 147gr will not feed with Hahn's feed ramp. |
Mine needed a break in period and polish job before it accepted anything. |
Can you tell me about your mag related issues and the fixes for them. I can get a reliable setup using 115gr or 124gr roundnose and that's it. Complete BS because I have 6000 rounds of American Eagle 147gr flat nose FMJ that is subsonic in my gun but I can't get the thing to cycle. |
You'd be fine with either one. I'd lean towards RRA stricktly for the outstanding customer service they provide if it should ever be needed. FWIW, I never thought of a cats ass as anything that attractive, so maybe you are right. |

I vote for the Hahn Dedicated. This is a truely fine machined component. I use it with Cproducts mags and it has run flawlessly 99.9% of the time after about a 100 round break in. It is just as reliable as my 5.56 AR's. It did require a very minor 1mm tweek(bending) to the ejector and some very simple mods that are obvious to the Cproducts mags. When I got a failure during the first 100 rounds it was simple to see what the problem was and what action to take. And the BHO feature works great. I tell people, "Do not get a 9mm AR unless you are willing to tweek it a little to run 100%" These guns are very rarely plug and play like the 5.56 uppers. Not a big deal but some people don't want to spend the time to make them run. |

I bought a Hahn Dedicate, I'm very happy with it. The set screw thing doesnt appeal to me at all. THe Hahn ran %99 out of the box with Custom UZI mags I cut myself after using my lower to make the scribe and cut marks. Alittle fine tuning of the block was not needed with myblock. I have yet to try c products mags but I have heard many good things about them. I personally would go with Hahn again if the need rises. |

I like the top drop fine, I just thought when I bought it I would be swapping .223 and 9mm uppers on one lower. That crap lasted a week. I have a dedicated 9mm gun now. So want to use a dedicated block so I can have BHO using the .223 catch. I know there is a 9mm catch out there but just not the easiest thing to track down. But the top dropper was sold and a dedicated block is on its way to my house as we speak. I could have gone on using the top drop but I like having BHO becasue I let a lot of people shoot the 9mm to learn on. And it is a nice safety feature for me to know the bolt is back and locked and they aren't fumbling around trying to pull the bolt back and lock it. It was just an issue running the wolff xp spring makes it pretty tough to rack the bolt back for some people. Not that it matters as the gun is empty at that point but it just makes me feel better and makes the experience better for others. |
Did you even try at all? Brownells or Garrison (~$20) or direct from RRA ($8.50). A std. top load with the 9mm catch acts right off the mag follower and should (in theory and practice) be potentially less problematic because there is no actuator like the dedicated top loader has that can get dirty and potentially not actuate the std. bolt catch. |
I was putting pressure on the mag by resting it on something when I was sighting the gun in. This caused jams. Don't touch the mag and it works as advertised. - BG |
You been to Garrison's website recently? I emailed them and they said there last batch was warped in heat treating. They say check the website for the new batch but could give me a date. Then the website goes MIA http://www.garrisonmfginc.com/ Brownells has it listed but others have reported they get the .223 version and not the 9mm that they order. RRA does have it know. I saw it on their website. But had decided by then not to pursue it since I thought it made sense to use the .223 part which is available everywhere and is supposedly somewhat stronger. I am not bashing the top loader at all. I sold it for what I paid for it and bought a dedicated block. No reason for me to hold onto it, when I could get all my money back and buy the dedicated for a couple bucks more. The use of the .223 catch, which I already have and have spares of, made it worth my while to swap the top load for the dedicated. It was a wash. Pay for the 9mm catch and shipping on it or sell my top drop and get a dedicated block. Seemed like the right thing to do for me. Thanks for your concern about my effort. I will report back if I have BHO issues with the dedicated block. If it is wonky then I guess I will have to sell it and buy another top dropper. |
