Anybody know anything about these? I have the opportunity to pick up one for $75 (which includes 1 mag). It seems very inexpensive, but I don't want to go spending $75 if it is something that won't work well. So, does anybody have any experience with this brand? Thanks in advance. |

Atchission was the designer of what has become the Ceiner conversion. I guess JAC bought the guy out. I have an old mag marked "atchission" or however it is spelled. Can't say I ever layed hands or eyes on the original deal . I really don't now if any changes or upgrades were done over the years. |

I have the Atchisson also... found it at garage sale something like 20yr ago. I think I paid maybe less than $20, complete kit. As noted, only real difference is the fire pin. Original was a floating flat plate, new is a spring loaded round pin, periodically breaks, people been carving new pin from AR-15 .223 pin, supposedly last longer. My mag has a weak follower spring, likley from age. |
I assume you are asking if the Atchisson works with the BDM mags ...... As noted in posts above, the Atchisson (original) is "Pre"-Ceiner, so the Ceiner and Atchisson is the same unit, other than the fire pin,,,, mag is the same. |
I have seen some pics of older Atchisson kits, though. |
Best of my knowledge (what left of it) is that Max Atchisson designed the unit in the first place, somewhere later in time Ceiner bought it out. Only real change Ceiner made was the fire pin. |

I have an Atchisson M16/AR15 .22 L.R. CONV. MK. II made by W.A.K. Inc. of Dayton, OH. Runs as good as my Atchisson Mk. III's made by Ceiner. As others have said: main difference is the flat firing pin versus the current round one; works great with BDM mags; at $75 it's a steal :-) -WhyTanFox |
BuffDragon, Would you be willing to share your source for Titanium firing pins with the rest of us? I know several folks (myself included) that would benefit greatly from that upgrade. Thanks in advance! Jeff |
I'm working on it. little bird told me there's the potential for a new kid on the block pretty soon. presently in beta testing. my screwed up atchisson kit was overhauled by this crew and the titanium pin was installed after I snapped my old pin. got my kit in yesterday.....looks good, will beat on it ASAP and see what happens. I was told that titanium may or may not be the fix (and is obviously quite expensive by comparison) so as soon as more info can be leaked, I'll do it........ (meaning, these guys [one in particular] have done a lot for me in getting my kit running since it wouldnt shoot at all for me and I dont want to screw up their game plan) stay tuned...... |

Hmm, very intersting. I have an old Atchisson conversion but it doesn't look like that! It's very old and I got it with an old SP1 Colt that was handed down when my father passed away. Wonder if it's a first generation model. It looks more like a typicaly bolt carrier and is round all the way to the back. At the rear most part is a piece of cork that is apparently a buffer. Anyhow, it says Atchisson on it and it DOESN'T work with the BDM mags. The top of the mag where the bullet sticks up from is longer than the origonal mag and won't let the mag go all teh way up in side the mag well. I figured I'd just have to buy another kit but now with the movement in dedicated .22 uppers I'm just going that way. |
Do you have any pics that you can share?
I think a somewhat common problem with the Ciener-made Atchisson kit involves the feed lip height on the magazines; in your case, have you tried shaving a bit from the top of the mags? -WhyTanFox |

Sorry guys, I don't good internet access away from work. Anyhow, no my conversion doesn't look like the item in the link. The rear of the conversion has more metal around it. And the recoil spring and guide rods are mounted at 3 and 9 oclock instead of at 12 oclock with the flat piece of metal in the middle. I would take a picture but I don't know how to up load it! It would be cool for anyone interested in the lineage. As for the feed lips, I never investigated the height. I just put the BDM mag next to the conversion mag and the length is what jumped out at me. I'll have to take another look at it tonight. That would be cool if I could get this kit to run with the new BDM mags and save me a couple hundred bucks! |
