I looked at a upper yesterday had a stainless steel bull barrel and free float handguard and was going for $480.

How do these work, are they reliable and accurate or problematic?? I tried to look at the DPMS website and they say they are revamping the .22lr line so I can't get any info on them.

I have a 20" DCM A2 upper of theirs.  I've put over 6000 rounds through it in two years.

The bolt assembly is based off of the Colt design.  As of right now there are no options for mags with a capacity greater than 10 rounds.

Accuracy is great, or at least mine is.  I generally shoot the cheapest ammo I can buy through it (Federal Champion Bulk Pack), and consistently hit empty 12 gauge shotgun shells at 40 yards (prone, supported).

Reliablity is good too.  I like the fact that the bolt assembly has dual extractors, as opposed to Cieners 1 extractor.  I have NEVER had a failure to extract.  Ever.  The only problem that I have had with mine was an OOB firing that blew off the right side extractor.  The reason that DPMS is revamping the dedicated .22LR line is because of this problem.  DPMS did me right:  I called them, shipped the upper to them, they repaired and returned it to me, no charge.

You need to keep the chamber of the upper clean.  DPMS recomends cleaning every 200 rounds.

I like mine, and would recomend it.

Hope this helps.

Another satisfied customer here. I have the DPMS AP4 version of the 22lr dedicated M-4 style upper.  I have shot mine a lot around 18000 rounds minimum.  I have had very good reliability.  I usually shoot Aguila 40 grain SE round nose ammo.  At around 15000 to 16000 rounds I started having failure to feed.  With the 10 round mag it is easy to loose count in rapid fire strings and drop the hammer on an empty chamber.  This continual battering peened the end of the barrel.  This peening obstructed the chamber which was cleaned up with a file.  Then I had an out of battery ignition which blew out the right extractor (I was testing another brand of ammo).  In inspecting the bolt assembly I also noticed the firing pin was broken.  I called DPMS and talked to Shane.  DPMS advised me to ship them the upper which I did.  DPMS repaired my bolt, removed the lodge bullet/round form the barrel and replaced the mag.  All this was done no charge and they did not even charge for the return shipping.  Now to me this was above and beyond customer service.  I even told them how many rounds I've fired in the upper.  Since I got the upper back I don't think I have had that first malfunction.  (FTF ONLY because of no primer compound in rimfire round)  If you don't buy the upper let  me know where it is for that price cause I'd like to have it.  I use my DPMS upper for training and it is set up like my duty rifle with E O tech and a BUIS.  This is a lot cheaper to shoot than 5.56 and not near as much noise for the me or the neighbors.  The 22lr has sure helped my confidence and ability shooting AR style rifles.   I have also used this rifle extensively with teaching new shooters!
