i just got a panther .223 AR15, and i love... although im really new to the whole rifle thing.... i was talking to a guy at the range with a .22lr conversion that said he bought a kit from bushmaster a couple years back, it was just the bolt and clip... he showed me he can just swap the bolts and mags and then shoot .223. a buddy of mine found this www.cheaperthandirt.com/ARR059-21126-1884.html www.22lrconversions.com/atch-pg.htm all other kits i found are top recievers costing around $300-$400... is there a reason to have a dedicated reciever? or are they just trying to make extra $$$ oh and whats a good 30 round mag? i know the ones for the rugers jam frequently any info appreciated as im REALLY new |

How accurate a kit is in your rifle is something you will have to try for yourself. Each rifle will be different no matter what the twist is. I do get the best out of a Colt 1-12 twist but my rifles with 1-9 twists are not bad at all. I haven't tried my 1-8 twist barrel yet but will very soon. I have heard of people with faster twists getting good results out of one rifle and not so good out of another that is just like it. In either of the rifles I have tried the kit in at 25M., the elevation was the same as the 5.56 but shot 4-6 MOA to the right. I have heard of some(friends I trust) that shot to the same POI as 5.56 and others that shot to the same windage but low in elevation. Only way to find out is to try it. BTW, I have heard of guys with complete .22 LR uppers with slow twist barrels that don't get any better groups than I do with my kit. |
| kinda lost me a little but i think i got it... so basically i could use the .22lr but i MIGHT have to adjust my sights a little bit for the difference in the ballistics... i could save lots of money :-)... i just wanted to make sure it didn't ruin the barrel somehow... |

I do most of my shooting at 25-50 Meters with my kit as I think most of the others do as well. A good range for .22's and the standard sight-in range for the military(25 Meters). As I am just getting around to really trying the kit in all my rifles, the results are mixed from day to day. 4 rifles and many different types of ammo takes a lot of time. I started with Remington Bulk Golden Bullets but gave up on them fast. Lots of mis-fires and some seemed to be oversize and not just in my AR kit but in a 1911 kit and a Ruger 10/22. Mini-Mags have worked great as well as the Federal Bulk Packs from Wal-Mart. I LOVE BOTH MY KITS----AR & 1911 |
| I own a dedicated upper built around a KKF barrel which is the proper bore diameter and rate of twist for .22 lr. While I was waiting on it to be delivered I tried it with two different 1/9 twist barrels at 25 yards, one with an eotech and one iron sighted and they both shot more than acceptable. For the hell of i't I thought I'd try a 1/12 .223 bbl and in my opinion that's the way to go. Granted I'm not using magnified optics or using these beyond 50 yards but for cheap practice with your present weapon (never tried 1/7 twist) I say go for it. Ciener + BDM mags= lots of fun. |

Yes, that kit is the Ciener Conversion Kit. You can get it cheaper though. I bought mine from Model 1 Sales for about $139.00 with the 10 rd. mag. I do not like the 30rd. mags or the mags. from Blackdog because they are too long for me as I do a lot of position shooting practice and they get in the way in prone. Also off the bags as well. I just bought extra 10 rd.Ciener mags. I am so happy that my kit shoots well with the Federal Bulk Packs as my kids, grandkids and great-grandkids love to shoot my AR's and I would go broke with them shooting 5.56 ammo. As you can tell my the last , I am an oldie (70) |

The High dollar dedicated uppers (compass lake and others) are supposed to be wonderful but essentially the cost of a whole AR and you have just that one setup. Don't bother with the bushmaster (they have had problems and don't currently make it ,same deal with DPMS) go directly to Ceiner. Like most any rimfire semi auto they are ammo sensitive so try a bunch of brands and types then when you find what keeps you/it happy buy cases. Let your unit get broken in first before you make a big ammo buy. I built an upper with a old style 1/12 barrel but truthfully any of my 1/9 bushmaster uppers work just about as well. MINI -MAGS are the king for reliable function but I have stockpiled several cases of PMC zapper that work near as reliable but are more accurate ,but unfortunately no longer available. Aguilla (who made the Pmc rimfire ammo) has some great deals on high velocity which seems to give the mini mags a run in the reliability dept with slightly better accuracy and 1/3 of the price. Once you get the unit well worn in try some standard velocity target ammo, no need to buy the high end Ely stuff , CCI std , any of the SK or Wolf all work fine . Groups shrink with the standard velocity stuff but some units will lose some reliability. You really need to try this all out for yourself in your gun/guns. Which brings me to the biggest selling point of the Ceiner. Take any normal AR (lefty stags fail) yank out your bolt group, replace with the Ceiner and slam in the loaded rimfire mag and you are good to go. Whatever style stock, upper, iron sight, red dot,or scope you have for your AR now has a second use on your new rimfire rifle! Some of the supper light target triggers will not run the rimfire but I have had great use from my RRNM triggers and any stock trigger I have tried. Like one of the previous posters I mostly just use the Ceiner 10 round mags , most guys here seem to love the 30's- YMMV Sorry for running my mouth but the Ceiner is about my favorite toy. Bottom line on the Accuracy--10 shot groups at 50 yards -scope,RRNM trigger and rest Mini Mags under 2" ,Aguilla high velocity about 1.5" Wolf MT barely over 1" I look at the accuracy thing as the Ceiner will outshoot any stock Ruger 10/22 and with the RRNM trigger it really gives my 10/22T heavy barrel target gun a run for its money. An AR with an adjustable stock and a Ceiner is the perfect fit for someone of smaller size. Nothing makes me so nuts as seeing some kid or smaller women trying to shoot and the only gun available has a full length stock that they can't wrap themselves around |
