Can a lower with a 9mm hammer still operate a 5.56mm upper?  I would like to build a lower to use with several uppers and 9mm is on my list to save some ammo.

Thanks for the help.

just ramp your 9mm bolt and use a standard hammer.

Forgive me (as I'm sure this has been covered many times) but how do I go about ramping the bolt?

Thanks for the suggestions.

His site says that he will not ramp a semi-auto blot carrier. Are you all using full auto carriers?

Semi auto carriers are rare and found on some early colts most all colt style 9mm bolts are full auto bolts.I ramp 9mm bolts also. Mike

My 9mm worked fine with a 9mm hammer, but I wanted to prevent accelerated wear so I ramped the bolt (I have a mill, may as well use it!).  The 9mm hammer had the notch and would not work with the ramped bolt, so I put in a regular 223 AR15 hammer and now it runs better than ever.  You can even feel the smoother hammer reset when pulling the charge handle back.

You may want to consider a heavy buffer if you are building this from parts or converting a 223 rifle.  I am using the "Slash 9Q buffer" and it works good with standard CAR spring for me.  But I never tried it with any other buffer.

Both of these (blot ramping and longer heavier buffer) are billed as prolonging the life of your lower and lower parts, I also used the KNS stainless steel anti-rotating hammer/trigger pin set.  These pins may be overkill, but I plan to shoot this 9mm carbine a lot and want it to last, and at $30 it is cheap insurance IMHO.

The Q-Buffer will not work with a .223/5.56 upper its to long. Mike

So does pretty much everybody charge $30 for the ramping? I have the 9mm hammer for mine, but I want to get it ramped eventually, so I can easily switch out between uppers in the future.

i use a ramped bolt and a "de-spurred" M16 hammer. this combo works quite nicely, and that hammer will work with just about any upper you could want to put on.

I believe the "$30" mentioned in the previous post is for the KNS Pin set, and not the bolt ramping cost.

Once you ramp the 9mm bolt, will a two-stage trigger hammer work as well?
