anyone running a screw on .223 can on their AR with a ceiner kit? I'm thinking about getting my first can, and i think I would get the most mileage out of a .223 one for the AR, especially since I mostly shoot 22 through it these days by way of the Ceiner kit. Does it affect function at all? Does the 22 dirty the can up too much? any affect on accuracy? how quiet is it? |

I'd reccommend against using a .223 can for a .22 Ciener. I fouled up a SWR Trident 9 can with over 9 ounces (!) of lead by doing that. Even though the bore was much larger than the .22, the baffles seem to collect the lead vapor, and it just gets heavier and heavier. I just got my can back from SWR who refurbed it for me, and I hope to be range testing it tomorrow. If you want a .22 can for the Ciener, then buy one you can take apart and clean, and then do that every 300-500 rounds. That crap builds up fast, and you can quickly get to the point of it being hoplessly fouled and welded shut by all the build up. It was really quiet though, and looked cool also. |
| The only jacketed .22 rimfire I'm aware of is 22 Magnum. The copper plated, or washed has no real value in preventing lead fouling of the can. I think the lead that cruds up the suppressors comes from part of the bullet base being vaporized by the burning powder and then condensing inside the can as lead gunk. I have seen a medium buildup on my A2 flash hider slots from shooting my 4.5" AR Ciener upper, but it can at least blow away as it gets too thick. |

I just got my Ceiner kit last week and put it in my A1 Upper with a Gemtech HALO. With federal bulk pack stuff from wal-mart, all you could hear was the crack of the bullet, the snap of the bolt, and the round impacting. Pretty cool. so then I ran some remington subsonic in it.... I was told that it will dirty up the can so I'll probably limit the use. It's quite enough without the can anyway. I'm thinking about picking up a TAC65 now. As far as accuracy, with the 1:12 barrel I was hitting a 5" shoot-n-see target consistently at 100 yard. No POI shift. And the best part, it cycled the subsonic ammo just fine. I had expected it to jam up. all in all i'm absolutely thrilled. probably the most fun i've had at the range in a while. I think my next project will be a dedicated, scoped upper with a 1:12 barrel and a 22 suppressor. |
