| I would like to get a Ar15 22LR upper, A couple of questions- Do these just use a standard Lower? or must you buy a complete gun? Which maker has the most reliable 22AR15 out there? And are there High capacity mags for any of these? |

You can get a Cenier kit, which replaces your bolt/carrier group, and use it in any of your existing rifles; OR you can go the dedicated upper route Spike's Tactical -- complete uppers/rifles Kuehl Precision -- barrels only Kurt's Kustom -- complete uppers Bushmaster -- Carbon 15 upper half avail. will fit mil-spec lower DPMS -- I don't think these are available right now all make dedicated .22LR dedicated rifles/uppers/barrels personally, I went the uber-tacti-cool route, .22LR 5" suppressed SBR, I got my barrel from Spikes. I've bought from Spike in the past, and have always been pleased. I also received excellent service from Bushmaster and Rick Kuehl, while I was going through my decision process. The Bushmaster solution appears wacky, but it looks like it should work, I don't have any knowledge of the DPMS approach. Spike, Kuehl, and Kurt all base thier systems on Ciener or Modified Ciener approaches (so you'll have to buy a Ciener kit anyway. Brownells or the EE is probably the best way to go about that). ~rj |
Don't forget (for those who must have the very best and don't mind paying for it) Compass Lake Engineering. They are oriented toward service rifle shooters and are more a match precision item than plinker. OTOH, I suspect that if you can describe it, they can make it. |
