I took my Ciener kit to the range today for the first time and found that it works wonderfully with the 10 round steel mag that came with the kit but the 30 round Black Dog Machine mag that I ordered along with the kit was a big disappointment.  I'm hoping there is some tweaking I can do to it to rectify things.

With the BDM mag, regardless of how many rounds were loaded or which of the several types of ammo I used, invariably the rifle would fail to properly eject each spent case resulting in a case stuck in the action and the next round partially chambered.  Often the case would get jammed between the equivalent of the gas key and the inside of the charging handle so it appeared as if the cases were being ejected up rather than to the side.  Sometimes the case would just end up wedged between the bolt fact and the chamber.

In any event, compared to the Ciener mag, something about the BDM mag was interfering with normal ejection.

Anyone else have a similar problem and manage to fix it?

Thanks in advance for your input.

You need to widen the gap at the rear of the feed lips to approx. .17". I bought my mags from a member here and he already widened the channel slightly with a file. So mine ran good from the get go. He found out they ran better in full auto this way.

Thanks

I figured when I was at the range that something about the feed lips was causing too much resistance or blocking/impeding the extraction but wasn't sure what to "adjust".

I'll measure the opening and adjust accordingly.

Hopefully that will help

Filed the gap to approx. 0.17 as suggested and that did the trick.  Ran about 400 rounds (Federal Lightning) through it today and it fuctioned perfectly.

With two trips to the range, the Ciener kit has paid for itself, is great fun, and its all gravy from here baby!

Thanks again for the help.

Just wanted to say thanks for the post and all the answers, i just bought a ciener kit along with a BDM mag, same exact problem. I had a lot of fun shooting the 10 rd mag, now i can't wait to file it down and go back!! I was about ready to start a fire and melt my BDM mag haha. i did find that loading the 10rd mag was A LOT easier than the BDM mag, how is the large Ciener mag? is it as easy as the 10rd?

Anyone making a loader for these yet? preferably one that doesn't cost $150, which is just rediculous.

thanks again!

Can you believe I have had the same problem ? Headed for the files right now. I did dis-assemble mag and lubricated where the follower runs, helped some, also quit loading over 20 rounds......."Scuse me I am fixing to file...

A little more clarification on as I am having the same problem w/ my Black Dog Mags:

"widen the gap at the rear of the feed lips to approx. .17". "

Would widening the gap occur where the rimmed(largest circumference part of the round) of the .22 brass part of the cartridge as picture above or would it be a little bit behind the bullet where the lead meets the brass of the casing.

Thx,

Thx,

Draver was the member that did mine. He had a straight bastard file that was just the right width. Run the edge of the file right thru the channel where the "F" is on the shell. The length of the channel, rim to the lead. You just need to widen it a little, not deepen it. Hope that helps.

I am not so sure the opening in the back makes a difference on the jammed case between the CH and the bolt.  If I hand cycled it slowly, I would see the mag lip hitting the round before the ejector would.

Good news is I just ran the thing thru a steel match with no mag problems.  Did have one bad primer.

Good luck.  I love this thing.

Correct!!   file down just enough on the mag lip to clear the case head. hitting the magazine drives the empty case straight up, and there is time/room for it to be caught by the CH. It can be very aggravating when it happens, and when it runs right, it is soooo very cool!!  I love my ciener upper!!  And I have the metal mags.

I took my 4 new BDM mags out today for the first time. After reading a couple of threads like this one I was prepared for feeding problems. Before I headed for the range I opened them up to about .160. That was one pull and the width of my file. I took the file to the range figuring I didn't want to take off more than needed. To my suprise I ran each mag loaded with 30 rounds 2 times with no failures of any kind. This thing is a blast to shoot.

I've posted this photo before, but here's the image of an original BD mag, and one that has been filed to the .17"-.175" gap that corrects the possible feed/eject issues:

The modified mag is on the left.
