Has anyone ever tried to file or cut forward assist serrations into their M261 adapter?  I ask because sometimes the bolt won't close all the way and it seems like a good idea to solve some of my reliability problems.

Also I have fired 22 before, but this is the dirtiest stuff I have ever seen before.  After 100 rounds the adapter it coated in sand like grit.  Is this normal?

Remington ammo seems to be dirtier than the Federal bulk pack stuff, but my 261 kit runs great if I just put a few drops of CLP  on the guide rail and bolt every 300 rounds or so. Never had any stoppages no matter how dirty the chamber adapter got. YMMV

Maybe I am running it too wet then.  Because when I read to run it wet, I sprayed it down with CLP so that it was almost dripping.  I will try reducing the amount of lube, before taking drastic measures.  I am to take it that I don't need to worry about the grit covering the adapter, and the inside of my receiver?

Install the M261 kit in your upper half, then look at the relationship of the forward assist to the .22 bolt.  The .22 bolt doesn't extend rearward enough to interface with the forward assist.

You can push the bolt forward with your thumb. Use the U shaped cutout on the side of the bolt that is seen through the ejection port.

I guess I never looked at in relation to the button, only in relation to the normal bolt carrier.   Since the regular bolt had serrations going to the front I thought it might work.

REA I did use the U shape, but I thought having the use of the forward assist would be cooler, and easier to use.
