There is no 22 magnum conversion either as a unit like the Ciener or a complete upper.

I gues going to .22 mag isnt exactly going to a cheaper ammo..

I just want silence and punch.

The 22 magnum is good for hunting and in that case not many shots are required -- unless you run into a pack of zombie coyotes. The ammo is a little expensive for plinking and blasting.

I have a tactical 22 Mag, it's called a PS90.  Ammo is about the same price, but the gun is much, much more.

Just use .223

If I recall correctly the bullets are the same diameter.  I think that a 22 mag conversion would be neat.  With everyone moving to the country, there would be less of a concern about a back stop when shooting varmits.  In some areas the 223 just travels way to far for confort.

The problem is it's hard to get 22 mag to function reliably in a semi-auto.  The case has a lot of surface area relative to its energy.  Ruger went through 3 iterations of the 10/22 mag trying to get it right.

I thought about about the same thing and tried to make a 22 magnum conversion using the good old M261 unit. When I tried it in a 1/7 twist barrel the copper jacket would get torn off -- a little less of a problem in a 1/9 but still had problems with the jacket. I then tried it in a KKF dedicated 22lr upper with the standard 22lr twist of 1/16 and it worked fine and was accurate and no jacket problems. Now this modified unit is made up of old M261 junk parts that I had left over from other projects so it is ugly but it works. I've used a bunch of different 22 magnum ammo types in it but I found the cheapest with good accuracy was the Winchester dynapoint 22 magnum ammo.

The M261 unit is very modified and works with a special buffer and spring. This unit has 500 to 600 rounds through it at this time.

I use the same magazines that I have for a 17 HMR project -- the one in the picture is a range magazine and only holds 7 rounds.

I don't have a picture of it with 22 magnum ammo in it, only 17 HMR.

I have a 1/12 twist upper that I was going to try the setup in but it worked so well in the KKF 22lr barrel that I never got around to it. There is gas leak with this type of setup but 22lr setups have that also. I can't say there is any value to this type of setup other than it was a fun project.

Hats off to you! That must have been challenging to say the least.
