Has anyone ever tried one of these uppers? Are they any good? I want to do a 9mm build that my girlfriend wouldn't mind shooting, so I figured the lighter the better. Does anyone know who actually makes Model ones rifles? Here's a link: 9mm Lightweight Also, since they are minus the bolt carrier, I figured I'd rather have one that is ramped. Where can I get a ramped bolt? Thanks! |
| Model one builds their own uppers. The barrels are produced by ER Shaw, the 9mm uppers come from Stag. The uppers run fine and carry a lifetime warrenty against material defect or workmanship issues. They also carry a 30 day satisfaction guarantee, if you're not happy send it back. M60joe can ramp your bolt. |
Also states that it has a forward assist - which it obviously doesn’t. |

I have found that a 5.56, especially using a mid-length gas system, has no more recoil, and sometimes even a little less than, a 9mm. Noise factor is another matter entirely. Also, the 5.56 will always have the potential to be lighter than the 9mm because of the heavier bolt carrier and the magazine well adapter. My personal "wife and kids" gun is a Bushmaster superlight 16". My wife says it "kicks" less than the Beretta Storm I used for that purpose before the Bushy. |
Interesting info. Mainly I want the 9mm AR for myself. I just wanted to build it fairly lightweight, so that the girlfriend wouldn't mind shooting it too. Keeping it simple without adding a bunch of tacti-cool accessories should keep it fairly lightweight. The only tacti-cool thing I plan on doing, is getting it as an A3 flattop and using a Larue BUIS. That might just reduce the weight a tad.Surprisingly, she doesn't mind heavy recoil, as she enjoyed shooting my AR-10. Also, we have an indoor range close by, so the noise factor is another reason for the build. |
