So, I'm pricing it out and it looks kinda grim here. On a regular AR you stand to save about $200 when buying an upper and lower sepperate. but on a 9mm AR you loose those savings in buying the conversion block and 9mm specific parts. Any one dissagree? Am I looking down the wrong track here? |
| No, you're on the right track. I'm not saving a lot, but you can't buy what I'm building. I went with a Hahn dedicated block and I'll be switching out the RRA upper receiver for an A1 receiver. I figure I'll have about $850 in mine, but I can sell the RRA receiver to recoup some, because I got the A1 dirt cheap. And besides, saving money and AR usually aren't found in the same sentence. |
Its worth it though. Here is how mine should look by this weekend. I received the Hahn dedicated block today from Brownells. The pic below has my 5.56 carbine barrel shopped onto the upper and lower I'll be using for my 9mm. Again, you can't buy this look. :) My upper is on its way from Eagle Firearms. Fortunately I ordered it at the beginning of the week, because they now list it as 'sold out'.

I bought my OA K9 since i didnt want to deal with any malfuncion/operating issues, like i notice some people are having with the mixed breed ARs. i think if you have some spare parts layiing around, then you could probably save some money, but i did some pricing on the upper/lowers and didnt notice any big savings. i havent priced any of the individual components so i cant comment. but im going to do some price checking on the individual components. My K9 now looks like this since ive had the barrel on it shortened. The upper on top is in 45acp.
