Are you going to use Colt or Uzi mags?

9mm AR FAQ

American Spirit Arms Block
-Top Loader model
-No bolt hold-open feature
*Note- apparently there are two versions, one designed for ribbed-back Uzi mags and one that is designed for the plasma tube welded Uzi mags with no back rib.

-Block uses unmodified Uzi magazines ($149 March 2004)
-does not actuate bolt hold-open
-Early version had a flat button and mags could disengage when yanked hard and mags were tight, Revised block now has raised button w/concentric rings and slightly larger magwell dimensions.

A strong + for the Hy-Tech block and unmodified Uzi mags!  My new build is well over 1000 rounds now with (knocking on wood as I type) absolutely no problems, even with about 200 rounds of that bumped.  It works flawlessly!

I was leaning to the Hytech.

I have the ASA block which functions well with modified uzi mags.  Purchased recently, it must be for the raised back uzi mags as there is a slot cut into the block to clear this.  It will NOT take Colt magazines as I recently found out.  Nor the inexpensive ProMag synthetic mags.  They are about .040" to long.  I milled down a couple of synthetic mags and they fit but I'd rather not have to modify my mags.  Next up:  mill open the mag block.  :-(

another vote for the Hy-tech.  1300+rds through mine and not one malfunction.  Plus the IMI mags are dirt cheap and built to last.

Can you use that with a colt 9mm upper? (re: the Hy-tech)

Cheap easy way to hold 9mm mag in the 9mm "Colt" pattern rifle, and the mags slip right into my Uzi, where they originated.   No need to worry about if the added cut is in the correct location....

Plug and play with $12 mags.

I've had mine 2yr this coming July.

Not sure how to answer the "parts wise".. but I try anyway.   The Hy-Tech block will run around $139-149 (I paid less for mine 2yr ago).  Plain Uzi 25 round mags can be had for $12-18.  The money you would spend to notch mags for a COLT style block will get you a free Hy-Tech block if you had to cut 14+ mags.

The barrel was cut from blank, paid the fella way tooo much to make it, had to repair it myself because he not cut it right.   Th rest of rifle is std AR parts.
