I did a search and didn't find an answer.
Has anyone had problems with the last few rounds not feeding in their AR15/9mm because the follower.

I tried out my new RRA 9mm with 5 IMI 20rd mags.  All rounds feed perfectly until it would get to the last 4rds. I looked at the mag and noticed with 4 or fewer rounds the follower pushes the front of the bullet up (subsequently puching the back down) and the bolt was grabbing the top of the case instead of the back.

My question is
1. Should I try to rebend the follower to fix the problem or
2. Should I weld a small piece to the top of the follower to keep the bullet horizontal?

Yes, it is the most common cause of FTF on this type of 9mm.  Basically you need to bend the follower slightly to flatten it out just enough that the bolt can strip the rounds from the magazine- about 1 in 4 guns needs this done from what I have read and a poll that was posted a while ago. Be gentle as the folower is thick and brittle.  Welding a little piece of something to the follower might work to- heck, just a dab of JB weld and a little piece of scrap might work too!

I was experiencing this same problem with my RRA build.  I switched the mag block and I not had any ftf on the last two rounds since.  I was tempted to bend the follower, but was cautioned against it because of how brittle they can be.  I would suggest looking into the angle of the mag block and what the ramp may be doing.

I can see the scrapes on the case, so I'm pretty sure it's not the mag block.

No problem here, but I run the  Hy-Tech block with IMI 32's, IMI and contact 25's.

I am using a ASA block I bent all the followers in my UZI mags. I bent them so the bullet would lay flat to the feed lips. After doing this I can dump compleat mags. Before doing it I would have one or two rounds that the bolt would just ride over the top of.

I've never tried my Colt with unmodified mags, I have just always bent them as a precaution. I have only broken one follower doing, so thats not too bad.

Anyone know if the mags will still work in an Uzi after the followers have been "tweaked?"  Kin of important as i was looking to use the mags in both my 9mm upper and my Uzi!

I dont see a problem with it.  Did not really change anything of value.

After I bent the follower for my AR 9 mm a friend off mine used the mags in is UZI full auto. They worked in both guns.

Ok, how did you bend the followers. My Uzi mag followers are real tough. Thanks

I used two pairs of pliers. Out of 10, I cracked one, I can't bend that one with my hands, so I'm trying it out today, I'm sure it will still work. I noticed that some are softer and more pliable than others. This is one for you-three of the five from RRA where already done??
I wonder if Mec Gar or Promag would sell new ones?

Well, took my 9mm upper out today- RRA upper with Uzi mags and VM Hytehc block.  It would fire fine except the last round in each mag would FTF- the round would be pointing straight vertical, and it was obvious the bolt had slipped about halfway over the case instead of garrbing it.  Guess I get to do the follower tweak too!

Oddly, my 40 rounder wouldn't lock in when loaded, even on an open bolt.  The VM catch oesnt' want to stay engaged.  Wierd.

That was the same thing my gun was doing. After playing with the followers a little I have no issues.

The Uzi mag was designed for the Uzi. The Uzi bolt is the size and weight of a freight train and will shove anything that gets in front of it into the chamber.
I compared the tilt of the follower in a Colt mag to an Uzi mag. Not the same....

Hmmm....do you know if the Colt followers fit Uzi mags?  I wonder because I ended up breaking a few followers while flattening them.
