Prototype only at the moment.

Sorry Guys, Eric at Lakeside machine is about to get slapped with a huge bill for his bandwith usage.  So he asked people to save the pictures and the video to their hard drive and try to minimize the traffic on his website. In view of the new information I have decided to remove the hot link and leave the other.

On a side note, I cant wait to throw my 2 Ceiner kits in the trash and sell the magazines!

Enjoy

Just need to know  when he will be taking deposits.

Maybe the guys at ARES can get some ideas from the pictures he posted.

I really really want one... it's just very difficult to justify that much money when 10/22 mags have become available again so cheap.   If I had the disposable cash though hell yeah I'd buy one.

I would spend any (reasonable) amount of money to buy one of these

nice stuff.  Is there going to be an ammo tray/box that holds the ammo, or would the user be humping it and feeing it from the left hand, ala Rambo style?

Any estimate on cost?

Also, you would pretty much HAVE to buy a linking machine as well, correct?

ho .. lee .. shit ..

after checking out that Lakeside Guns link .. i'm almost beside myself ..
my DPMS rimfire M4A2 with ACE skeleton stock and Tasco ProPoint was supposed to be the last long gun i'd ever need (until a civilian .22 version of the XM8 comes out in 2012) ..

best of luck to the Lakeside development crew ..
may they get enough orders to warrant a mass-production run that lowers the price per unit (fingers crossed) .. thumbs up

I would give $1500.00 for one today!

I'm the first person in WV that will get one.  Not you.    I'm the king.

Message Contents

First I’d like to say thanks for all the support and emails for this project. I am placing emails with "22/upper" in the headers in a separate folder to help keep track of you fellas. Please understand I have been swamped with messages and I'm not able to reply to them all. I still make 6 other beltfed rimfires too, so I have a lot of messages and questions to answer on the other stuff as well. I hope to clear up some questions right now about this project.......I'd like to keep this forum for answers to all questions so I do not end up repeating myself in emails all day long.

1) Belts and links are available now. Go to our belt/link pages to see pricing and quantities and belt lengths.

2) Plastic strips as belting??..YES, I am working on that right now. I was delayed in the  production because of the Sept. 13th expiration of the ban. I focused on the links instead.

3)Calibers. I can offer this unit in 22Lr and 17M2. All that will be needed is a barrel change.

4)Barrel changes. The prototype was simply made to see if the physical/mechanical design was even possible. The future will bring a quick-change barrel system so that ANY barrel length can be changed easily, including integral suppressed units.

5)Buffer change. This upper uses a different buffer system. The factory buffer will be taken out and replaced with our integral slip in unit.

6)yes, it is going to be made for semi-auto AR15's

7)Title 1 status. I will sell it as a title one firearm first and until I can get a non-gun ruling in writing from ATF. I am certain none of you want to wait until the letter arrives from atf.......that may take years to get, so in the mean time I will make serial numbered uppers and sell them similar to how the XMG upper is sold. The upper itself is without a stock, pistol grip, firing mechanism. It has no definite overall length because it lacks a stock and is not a complete weapon. In order for it to be an AOW it must be completed, it is not. It is likely the ATF Tech branch will rule it a firearm receiver, but that’s the worst it can be. Lets say a Remington 700 is sold without a stock…is it not under 26”? is it a rifle?? Is it a handgun??..No, it would just be a title1 firearm as it could be made into a non-rifle configuration from that point. So if this upper has a short barrel on it and no lower receiver, what is it? Rifle?, nope, no stock. Pistol?, nope, no grip to fire it with one hand. Correct me if I’m wrong here, or am missing something vital, but this can be nothing other than a simple title 1 firearm at its worst regardless of the barrel.

8)Deposits...I am not taking deposits now as it is too early in the game. When I get back from SAR I will have a good feel for how large a scale of production I am looking at. I do plan on starting production right away when I get back. The best way to help me out if you would like to fund this project is to buy a Vindicator or tripod miniature...those are shipped regulary presently. Plus, you might be getting one of only 61 Vindicators made if this upper really hits it off. For those who can afford it, the Vindicator is the best way to help me out with a "deposit" and you will be getting something in return.... remember we build 6 models right now and need funding to do those and future projects too.

9)Suppressors...We build a model M22 suppressor made with die drawn stainless baffles...this is what the Micro-beltfeds are running with in full-auto. They are maintainable and work excellent.

10)Belt loaders and link presses.....NOT necessary, and besides I think nearly all the belt loaders are spoken for. The belt loading machines were made for the miniature collector not for the “blaster” all day shooters out there. The belts load very easily by hand and the links do too.

11)Ammo. I use CCI Blasers for the ammo. CCI is cheap and has a consistent brass rim dimension and energy. It is not hot ammo at all and it runs nice on it. The bullet nose is the most important...the blaser has a full round nose and feeds better than hollow points. Standard velocity ammo is getting very weak and may not run...I have to experiment with it more to give you fellas a better comment on that. Keep in mind, this is just a prototype, I have many ideas in mind to improve it.

12) Dealer prices...not at this time. I will likely sell it at full retail until the market is satisfied for a while. If things get rolling well, I may find a distributor to handle the orders...other than that it will likely be factory direct sales only. PLEASE don't call me with "I want to be your distributor" messages...not interested right now.

13) No we are not offering stock for sale. Nor are we looking for investors.

14)RDIAS. Yes it is possible to have this unit run with the RDIAS. I have not been able to test it, but it should work just fine. The LL is another story, as I feel it takes more forward energy to trip the LL than the DIAS.

15)rate of fire is around 980 rpms. This is the speed a miniature runs at using Blaser ammo....it seems the same speed to me. It has a nice rhythm and it sounds like a MG, not a door buzzer.

16)Water cooled barrels. Possible and able to be done with the quick change barrel systems in the future. HOWEVER, the barrels can only handle so much firing before the lead bullets start melting as they are going down the bores. You WILL lead up your barrels quickly if you dump belt after belt of ammo. I did about 1000k rounds in about 10-15 minutes at Knob creek this fall thru the BF1 and it leaded up the flash hider really bad that it was striking the sides of it as it went thru.

17)Link catcher on the belt box......YES, I plan to feature a recovery system for links and belts. I simply didn’t have the time to design something and have it ready to show at SAR...give me some time, I'll make that a standard feature on the belt box.

18)Reliability?....the unit is very reliable as long as its maintained and fed good ammo and the belt is fed from the belt box. All these things are factors for ANY 22LR firearm...I sense this unit will be taking more abuse and dirt than the average 22 you own. The upper is equipped with a bolt hold open device that lets you get in there with a toothbrush to get the crud out without taking it apart for a hard core clean job. It will run at least a couple thousand rounds before you'll have to scrape it clean.

19) sight rail...The height of the rail is very close to a flat top upper dimension, so clamp on iron sights can be applied. I didn't have the time to make a picatany rail system for the front end, but that can easily be done for future improvements.... Remember, I was simply going for the function of this thing, cosmetic stuff can be done later. There makes no sense in having a good-looking gun that doesn't work, right??

20) It may be possible to make one for the 22magnums and 17HMR...being the major engineering bump to overcome in this project is bolt mass, I can use a massive magnum bolt to run the hotter mag ammo.... this would mean a different upper though...it would not interchange with 22LR.

21) Delivery.....as soon as possible. When I get back from SAR I will be getting drawings and prices figured out a bit more. One aspect of the project might take some time......if I had to guess a delivery time, I’d say fall of 2005. Maybe sooner if things work out well…….then again maybe much later too. One thing is for sure, if I start takeing deposits, I will have a good feel for what I can do and a time frame to give you for delivery. Also, I will always keep you posted in the progress and problems we would encounter.

hope this clears up some of the Q&A's..

See you all at SAR!!!
