What do I give up by getting the conversion kit vs a dedicated upper? Accuracy only? Seems the kits are a lot cheaper... |

DPMS dedicated .22 upper looks like the real deal, feels like the real deal. no gas tube. operates straight blowback. this might be cleaner than the conversions because some people say rimfire gums up the gas tube. hells if i know for fact, though. no bolt open after last shot, non-functional forward assist. totally kicks ass, even using bulk ammo such as winchester wildcats. dpms has great customer service. not plastic or pencil thin like the bushmaster .22 upper. not silly looking like the side-charging CZ .22 upper. comes in 16" or 20" version, you can have an A2 or A3 upper receiver. i'm totally satisfied with mine as it is a very well functioning dedicated .22 upper. does what it's supposed to and looks/feels like the real deal. word up. |

I have a DPMS M4 upper too, and it works great. Only disadvantage is the lack of hi-cap mags (you can get 30-rounders for the Ciener), though hopefully DPMS will offer hi-caps after 9/14. If you have a registered M16, you might prefer the full-auto version of the Ciener. The DPMS will not run full-auto AFAIK. |

see here my bushy upper is now broken in and and running well. mike |
Accuracy Not getting extreme lead fouling in your .223 bore Cleans easier One sight setting for .223 and .22LR, no need to keep switching between them... Personally, I recommend the DPMS product, as they are the only ones to offer an A2 upper... The rest are space-gun/flat-top designs, if that floats your boat... |

Yeah, what everybody else said. Accuracy is the big thing. I have both systems and the dedicated DPMS upper will kick the conversion unit's ass in accuracy. The DPMS's WORST groups with its WORST ammo are a little better than the BEST groups you can get with the BEST ammo in a conversion, especially if the conversion is being used in a 1:9 or faster barrel. If you only want to shoot rimfires a couple times a year, and/or at very close range, a conversion might do you. Otherwise, either get a dedicated top half or build yourself a nice 10/22. |
