Went shooting this weekend....had multiple "fail to eject" and "fail to extract" problems in an RRA 9mm upper...A new found friend was able to point out that the extractor roll pin was moving up and allowing the ejector to push back into the bolt carrier causing multiple problems....I am going to contact RRA monday but I have a couple of questions....

How does the extractor function in the 9mm carrier....is it similar to a 1911 extractor.....

Can I punch out the pin and just replace or should I send it back to RRA....

Why is this problem happening in general...

Thanks in advance...

Yes, the extractor works very much like a 1911's.

If you have a suitable roll pin, then yes, you can take care of it yourself.

It's happening because someone at RRA screwed up while assembling your bolt.  They usually deliver a good product, but they are swamped with orders lately and when people hurry, mistakes happen.

The roll pin may just need to be driven further in.  Pull it out and check it.  If it's not broken or damaged then align the extractor up properly and drive it in.  Clean out the hole the extractor sits in while you have out and clean it once in a while after you have used the gun for a while.  It tends to get filled with gunk.

I had the exact same problem. I replaced the roll pin with a split pin. I have fired alot of rounds since then with no movement of the pin.

The pin on the left is a split pin, the one on the right is the original from RRA. The left pin is not the replacement for the factory piece, just one I had around the bench.

The pin to the left is one piece of metal turned once , the other is also one piece of metal that is much thinner and spun to get the right diameter.

OK....I sent the carrier to RRA and they reseated the pin under warranty at no charge (dont get me wrong, both my AR's are RRA- I was hoping to get a little more support). I have not called them back yet but my problem is that I could have reset the pin. Why did it move in the first place...I clearly explained that it was a reoccuring problem...

Should I order a couple of pins to see if I have a crappy one, or how can I find outwhere I can get a split pin of the diameter....

Appreciate input in advance...Gidds-45

Just go to the local hardware store (Lowes or Sear's Hardware). Get the black colored roll pin with the split down the side.

Should cost you no more than 25 cents. I can knock mine out tonight and give you a measurement for OD and length.  My bolt is a Garrison Mfg.

My extractor retaining pin mics out at .125" which =s an 1/8 of an inch. I went to the local DIY and bought a 2 pack of 1/8"X 3/8" roll pins for mine.
