ok guys.  went to the range today shot my oly 9mm agian, only this time i noticed it was getting more difficult to pull back the charging handle--when i got home and took it apart to clean it, i noticed about an 1/8" dent on the lower receiver.  it looks like the bolt carrier is coming back too far and the top lug is hitting/slamming into the lower.  so, i assume the reason the charging handle was becoming more difficult to pull was because the buffer was getting squeezed as the 1/8" dent was being made.  i have an ace socom adj stock with their car buffer and spring.  why is this happening?  and what do i do to stop it?  i did not notice it on the first 100 rds i put through it last weekend and i did strip it down to clean it--so i would have seen it then--the only difference this time out was i had the stock all the way in this time so my 10yr old could shoot it.

please help
thanks

ok i just took this , the only thing i could find for scale size is the damn pez thingy.. this is the heavy duty buffer that i use with the stock.

AH HA i found a ruler.. the heavy duty buffer is 3 & 1/4 "s .. i know when i bumped down to the short stock they upgraded my buffer.

aim4myhead, i think i found the problem.  can you take another measurment for me please?  can you install only the buffer in the socom stock tube(no spring) and stick a ruler inside the tube(w/buffer only) and measure to the outside (end of threads on the tube).

what i found is the socom stock w/buffer installed is considerably deeper/longer than the car stock i replaced.  the old stock with same 3 1/4" buffer measured 3 13/16" to the end---while the socom stock measured 4 9/16".  it is no wonder the top lug on the bolt was hitting the lower because the top lug to the end of the bolt measures 3 15/16".  so, there was nothing to stop the bolt from going back too far--because there is 5/8" free space.

so i think i have a problem with the socom stock-buffer combo.

hope that all made sense.  i guess i must have missed the dent from the last time out--can't belevie that i usually look the gun over pretty good while cleaning but--as the saying goes stuff happens.
thanks

ok here's what i did i hope there was no miscommunication. I dropped the buffer in the tube. then measured the distance from top of buffer to end of tube.  I have 3 & 3/4" from end to end.
sounds like you need the correct buffer  for your stock.

aim--thank you very much for taking the measurment.  i think i have the correct buffer because my buffer measures 3 1/4" just like yours.  i think my problem is with the stock itself--when i look inside the tube there is a ridge that runs around the bottom 3/4"--it looks like they might have forgot to put the top plate on it to keep it from being too deep.  i will be calling ace to see about their spec's.

thanks again for the help.
