I've not seen this addressed in the forum yet...is it necessary to replace the std Colt SP1 hammer with a 9mm hammer?  Or, is it possible to remove some of the weight off the spur (simular to a JP low mass hammer)?

If using an Olympic system, run what you have, Oly use a std AR carrier with a caliber specific bolt head stuck into front.

If using a "Colt" clone, the bolt will look like this out of the box-

So you will at least need to use a hammer that looks like this---
