I have a Bushmaster 16" AR and a Ciener .22LR conversion kit. How much do you have to clean the ar after using .22 to safely shoot .223? Do you have to clean the gas tube, action and barrel, or only the barrel? Thanks

I have a Colt kit, and the only worry I had was the amount of gunk getting thrown back down the gas tube into the action. I now have a dedicated upper, with a sealed gas tube, so I don't worry about that any more. Much less gunk tossed back into the action. If you open your rifle up, and find a lot of grit/junk/gunk/unburnt powder, clean it. If not, well, don't worry about it too much. I've gone 2500 rounds between cleanings. I never worry about lead bullets when using my Ciener as I use plated Wally World Federal Classic ammo. I shoot about five rounds of .223 after a brick of .22's just to blow out any junk that may have gotten in the gas tube. I clean the Ciener unit about every 500 round just to keep it from FTE's. The only thing I do to the barrel is run a patch with Ed's Red through it and then a dry patch and then it gets wiped down and put away. John from MD
