| Looking to get my first AR. After searching a little I'm leaning towards buying a complete lower and upper from psa. Just wondering what you guys would do if you were building an AR for around $700? |

Good news for you. You can do it for considerably less than that.
If you want good feedback, tell us what you want this for. Is it hunting, plinking, HD, precision or 3 gun? That will guide the answers. If you just want a basic all arounder, the PSA is. Good solution, but the money you're talking about will also get you a complete S&W or many other "name brands". Building is fun and you get to know it better. You can also choose parts you want in advance, like trigger, handguards, etc, without paying for them twice as you do with a ready made. |

PSA Lower w/ MagPul furniture $150 shipped requires a trsf to your FFL
+ PSA Midlength upper with MagPul furniture & Sights $250 + PSA BCG $90 shipped <$500 for a Midlength with MagPul goodies Just needs a charging handle (~$20) |
| Not set on psa but they seem to be recommended for first "builds". Not really sure a completed upper and lower is considered a build. I'm assuming that's because of the price point though. It would be mostly used for plinking and coyote hunting occasionally. I also wouldn't be opposed to building the lower since it would take minimal tools from what I've seen. Just trying to get some ideas on what other people would do if they were going to spend around $700. |

I bought a Daytona Tactical and let me tell you, I have been really happy with it. I think I paid $500, and that got me a SS barrel and a 12" keymod
It probably shoots a little over an MOA but I have a red dot on it.. its strictly a self defense, go to the range and have fun AR For your first AR its really all you need (it was my first AR) I have a .338 Lapua for longer distance shooting |
| Bravo Company is quality, no doubt. I have also heard a lot of people have good things to say about PSA's premium offerings. Either would likely do you well. Personally, I build from the ground up these days. There is always something about factory uppers or rifles that I want to change. |
| I just built my PSA from a completed upper and I assembled the lower. I have just north of $500 in it with flip-up sights, and a couple magazines. It has all Magpul furniture and free floating aluminum handguard and I have the polished trigger. Personally... I think the less you deviate from a standard build the more reliable it is likely to be. |
| What about that $499 complete Ruger 5.56 AR with a 30-round pmag for sale at CDNN right now? If I were starting new in the AR15 platform I'd be very tempted by that unless someone knows something about that model that's a fail. I don't buy complete AR's anymore, as I pretty much build everything from scratch, but that $499 Ruger seems like a good start for someone starting out. |

I think I'm gonna spend a little more and do a bcm upper with a psa lower build kit. kinda torn on the bcg. Leaning toward the psa premium or would it be worth it to go with the bcm? BCM upper/PSA lower or PSA Premium upper/PSA lower, I'd be happy w/either (and I am, I have both combos PSA Premium bcg is excellent, as is the AIM Surplus V2 Nitride bcg (when you can find one,my fav bcg) : http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx?item=XAIMBCGV2&name=AIM+v2+BLACK+NITRIDE+.223%2f5.56+AR%2fM16+C158+Bolt+Carrier+Group&groupid=723 Tomac |

If I were starting out, I would do a Colt OEM 6920 and add your choice furniture.
You absolutely cannot go wrong. Colt's hold their resale too. It's a great platform to learn. If I had it to do over, I would buy a OEM 6920. Those come without furniture; just the skeleton Colt; add your furniture. I bought two 6920's with their furniture and changed one to Daniel Defense tornado furniture, Daniel iron rear sight, and now have a Giessele SSA trigger to install. Just have not got to it yet. The second one is staying basic with it's standard furniture. I just want to change the rear sight to a iron magpul. It will come with a polymer rear flip up, nothing wrong with that really, it's magpul, I just like iron. There's lots of choices out there. I don't think anyone can go wrong starting out with Colt. |
