| I will be picking up a spare BCG. Is there a particular brand I should be leaning too and in what price range should I be looking at. |

What's your budget? There are excellent low-cost phosphate bcg's like Toolcraft & the PSA Premium, and AIM's Nitride bcg's have a very good reputation (I'm a fan of their v2 Nitride, finally in-stock again after several months). BCM & Colt are unquestioned if you have the $$$ (I've owned both).

Most of mine are BCM if you're just looking for a mil spec BCG. Unless you want a carrier for some reason, a spare bolt is good enough; carriers rarely wear out while bolts can have a relatively short lifespan. THIS. I've never heard of a carrier wearing out. The carrier is nothing but a metal tube, there's nothing to go wrong (no need to be like all the crazies and get all kinds of spare BCG's. A spare bolt will do you). The only possible thing on a carrier that MAY (although highly unlikely) is the gas key. Having a spare key (and Loctite to secure it) would be enough insurance if your so inclined (I do NOT, myself. I have spare bolts, but no spare carrier parts as I've yet to see one fail). Just head over to AIM and get yourself a spare (or few) nitride bolts (they come with FP, CP, FPRP). Call it done. I put a spare bolt group (bolt, FP, FPRP, CP, 3ml lube) in every rifles magpul grip. That's it. One back up bolt group for every rifle. No spare carriers (or parts for). Spare carriers are like spare engines for your car (when it's usually the water pump, alternator, etc that goes... not the engine). It's a waste. |

A spare bolt carrier group or two is a great idea, and always handy in case you are doing new builds. If you are looking at them for the sole reason of something breaking down the road, buying quality bolts may be a better purchase. Milspec (if the company is honest) is an easy way to go about your purchase. Please remember, a new bolt does NOT mean your headspace is going to be legit. If you find extraction issues, or chambering issues, you need to understand what is happening. In reality having gauges on hand is the proper way to do things, but most people go with functionality instead. |

I would be interested on knowing if there is a BCG produced by a known manufacturer that is bad stuff.
I believe every well known manufacturer makes good ones. You will find premium and expensive BCG like JP and others. If you need extreme accuracy and extreme group consistency. But for all other regular needs, I do not believe there is a BAD bolt carrier group produces by a serious manufacturer. |
| I just received 4 PSA Premiums on Monday with charging handles for a good price, they are good to go and residing in my safe as I type this, now I have the lowers and uppers to make more guns, but am tired, so they may just become spare parts for my other guns. |

I believe toolcraft is the supplier for the PSA premium bcg so if you can't find a plain toolcraft PSA is the place to hit. |
