I will be picking up a spare BCG. Is there a particular brand I should be leaning too  and in what price range should I be looking at.

Most of mine are BCM if you're just looking for a mil spec BCG.

Unless you want a carrier for some reason, a spare bolt is good enough; carriers rarely wear out while bolts can have a relatively short lifespan.

What's your budget? There are excellent low-cost phosphate bcg's like Toolcraft & the PSA Premium, and AIM's Nitride bcg's have a very good reputation (I'm a fan of their v2 Nitride, finally in-stock again after several months). BCM & Colt are unquestioned if you have the $$$ (I've owned both).

ANY BCG that is Mil-Spec and has  been HPT and MPI tested will be fine.

Define your budget and buy the "best" you can afford.
Fwiw, I run DSA, RRA, and Aim.....no problems here.

THIS. I've never heard of a carrier wearing out. The carrier is nothing but a metal tube, there's nothing to go wrong (no need to be like all the crazies and get all kinds of spare BCG's. A spare bolt will do you). The only possible thing on a carrier that MAY (although highly unlikely) is the gas key. Having a spare key (and Loctite to secure it) would be enough insurance if your so inclined (I do NOT, myself. I have spare bolts, but no spare carrier parts as I've yet to see one fail). Just head over to AIM and get yourself a spare (or few) nitride bolts (they come with FP, CP, FPRP). Call it done.
I put a spare bolt group (bolt, FP, FPRP, CP, 3ml lube) in every rifles magpul grip. That's it. One back up bolt group for every rifle. No spare carriers (or parts for).
Spare carriers are like spare engines for your car (when it's usually the water pump, alternator, etc that goes... not the engine). It's a waste.

I tried this once.. bought a whole bcg from psa.. then ended up getting an upper because it was on sale.. and why not.. then a lower. Now no spare parts.

A spare bolt carrier group or two is a great idea, and always handy in case you are doing new builds.  If you are looking at them for the sole reason of something breaking down the road, buying quality bolts may be a better purchase.  Milspec (if the company is honest) is an easy way to go about your purchase.  Please remember, a new bolt does NOT mean your headspace is going to be legit.  If you find extraction issues, or chambering issues, you need to understand what is happening.  In reality having gauges on hand is the proper way to do things, but most people go with functionality instead.

I've been impressed with Toolcraft for the money and for the quality.

I agree with the people saying get just the bolt however the full BCG on AIM is like $20 more. I'd just buy a complete spare at that cost.

I would be interested on knowing if there is a BCG produced by a known manufacturer that is bad stuff.
I believe every well known manufacturer makes good ones.
You will find premium and expensive BCG like JP and others. If you need extreme accuracy and extreme group consistency. But for all other regular needs, I do not believe there is a BAD bolt carrier group produces by a serious manufacturer.

My BCM BCG work well and like a sewing machine in my Spikes and Sig Sauer AR's.

Spikes BCG''s that come with their LE upper are also also MPI and HGI tested and I
am pretty sure they are all tested that way for Spikes.

I just received 4 PSA Premiums on Monday with charging handles for a good price, they are good to go and residing in my safe as I type this, now I have the lowers and uppers to make more guns, but am tired, so they may just become spare parts for my other guns.

I believe toolcraft is the supplier for the PSA premium bcg so if you can't find a plain toolcraft PSA is the place to hit.

Does the BCG have any effect on the rifle's accuracy?

I have never found any effect, as long as the BCG is in mil specifications.

There is a company called "Phase 5 Supply" on GunBroker. I bought a brand new FN bolt from them last month for $40. You can't beat that with a stick! They go in and out of stock, so you have to catch them when they are in stock.
