Some people are concerned with how the locking lugs match up with the barrel extension after there is some wear.

Personally, I don't worry about it, but what do I know???

I don't think it's a big deal. Like using same laces in different shoes. Doable but why bother. Bcg is dirt chip now. Buy one plus spare bolt.
One is none. Two is one.

Generally speaking...

New BCG + new barrel = Good to go
New BCG + used barrel = Good to go
Used BCG + new barrel = Good to go
Used BCG + used barrel = check headspace

To be safe you should always checkspace.

While it is rare - manufacturers to have tolerances that aren't always perfect.

Worse case scenario - you and your gun gets blown up.

The headspaces gauges are not that much money.

Just my .02, I have swapped out and many builders have swapped out other BCG's from other guns and we haven't had a problem. Although as mentioned it rarely happens, but if you purchase quality products then you shouldn't have an issue.

The quality has little to do with it since most bolts are made from c158 or 9310.

A worn bolt with several thousand rounds on it will not match up to a new chamber as would a new bolt.

Unless your rifles cost 200-300 the idea of sharing a bcg between several rifles is just.....   On the other hand you should have plenty of cash for another bcg or two.

Then again safety should come into play here somewhere a bit also.

Agreed. Right now is a great time to buy. Shit, last I checked you can buy an AIM bolt for $80 free shipping. Why on earth would you risk it?

But as the OP mentioned he is trying to save some money, I understand that a well-used bolt has some wear but probably not enough to make a difference.

On the other hand, could be a great time to ask the wife for an early birthday gift...nobody like sharing parts, every guy wants to shoot every weapon he owns at the same time whether its possible or not.

If you need an excuse to buy a new bcg or just the bolt...how about the issue of safety?  Tell the wife its all about the safety!

Explain headspace to the wife.  And that its not a sex thing.
