I am a rookie shooter. I just want to know why people change out stock trigger guard?
What advantage do you get? You got brands from BCM, magpul, and the list goes on. Is a cosmetic issue? |

They were originally intended to fit gloves inside the trigger guard. Until all the tacti-noobs turned it into another damn trendy fashion show. |

Barbie dress-up/fashion.
I'm guilty...I like the Magpul. But that's about as far as I go with Barbie dress-up. Smith & Wesson wheel guns and modern Colt wheel guns both have their distinctive trigger guard shapes. You look at it and you know it's a Smith or it's a Colt by the shape of that trigger guard. Magpul nailed it and owns it with their AR trigger guard design and everybody else is wannabe. |
| The opening didn't matter so much to me, it was the edges on the lower that were chewing up my middle finger. I replaced the mil-spec guard with the Spikes and now my finger isn't getting mauled during mag changes. The nice thing about the Spikes is that it snaps in with no tools, so no risk to breaking the ears off of the lower. |

Cool. Thanks everybody for the input. I mean it's cool how people want to make their ar-15 in a certain way.
I'm trying to make mine to look like "m4" which I already failed cuz you need short barrel length, mine is 16'' plus i can't get full auto. Good luck with that. Just trying to make best out of what I got. |

To get close, so you can mount a bayonet properly, you have someone (ADCO) cut your bbl to 14.7", and then have the standard flash hider pinned & welded in place. Then you're only .2" off a real M4 bbl. |

This hit the nail on the head. There may be some in colder climates that need a different trigger guard that allows more space for the use of gloves, but for the most part, it is a fashion statement. Even the standard trigger guard is designed for use of gloves. It does require depressing the pin at the front of the trigger guard to release it and allow it to swing down. With many aftermarket trigger guards, they are designed to where they do not have to be released. They are curved to make the allowance for glove usage. |
