I've been putting my AR together for a couple of months now. Started with a stripped Delton lower followed by a lpk from stag arms (on sale with buffer tube assembly). I ended up buying the oops! lpk from stag arms a few weeks later for obvious reasons (does sending a few springs/detents flying across the room make me an official enthusiast? I'm not sure). I love the stag arms trigger and everything fit beautifully. My upper came from Radical Firearms and it is gorgeous. The melonite coating is even throughout, low profile gas block, and quad rail. The price was great and I can not recommend them enough. I liked it so much that I ordered a bcg and charging handle from them. I'll probably order from them again should I feel the need to start another build.
Now we're down to the wire. Sights, red dots, etc. I see almost everyone uses the magpul BUIS but are there others that aren't polymer and worth the investment? Also, I was thinking of getting a red dot as my primary sighting system but which one won't break the bank? I'll definitely get a single point sling, forward grip, mags, and ammo but the sights are a bit confusing. I know you get what you pay for but I'm not keen to spend $200 on BUIS and almost $500 on an eotech. Not yet at least. Any input would be appreciated. |
| If it was me I would look into a Vortex Sparc or Primary Arms Micro dot set up..Either one can be had with a few different mounts for under 200$.And I would just give the standard Magpul Mbus sights a shot..Unless your wanna pay 2 or 3 time as much for a decent non-poly set.?How you liking the Radical Firearms upper so far? |

Make use of the EE and you will save a bunch of money.
MBUS are fine, best you can get in that price range for backup sights. The Pro versions are metal and some of the smallest/least intruisive back up sights you can get, but expect to pay a lot more. Same with the Troys. Primary Arms red dots are a fantastic option. Their latest model is awesome - 50,000 hours battery life (this guy) for half the price of an Aimpoint. It will give you the chance to see if red dots/optics are what you like or if you want to try 1-4x scopes of holo sights like eotech. (That all being said, assuming this is just a range gun/fun gun. If you plan to trust your life to it on a regular basis, you may want to start out looking at aimpoints, eotechs, trijicons). |

Another option that's on par with the price of the Mapul MBUS sights are the Diamondhead polymer sights. So, you might want to take a look at those. You can get them on amazon for a bit less than the MSRP. I know a couple guys who bought a set and they have been very pleased with them.

I really like the upper so far. I'm basing my opinion on looks since I ordered the bcg and charging handle from but it hasn't arrived yet. I'll be able to check overall function once I put a few rounds down range. Their lead times are a bit long but they're up front about it and they build whatever you order instead of pulling it off a shelf. I spoke with one of the reps when I wanted an update on my order and they were very pleasant. Told me exactly when it would ship. I would at least give them a look. They have a ton of options on their parts. The most attractive thing to me was the ability to order an upper without certain parts so I didn't end up spending more for parts I wasn't going to use.
I will most likely pick up the MBUS and a primary arms red dot after reading the thread. I do intend to trust my life to this weapon but need to get a sense of what's going to work for me. Thanks all. |
