Who makes mil-spec buffer tubes that have something other than 6 positions? More or less and from experience what do you prefer and why? Is the A5 an upgrade? Are the VLTOR or LWRC UCIW good? Etc... This is not for an SBR application

Mil spec is 4 position, I think colt makes 4 position buffer tubes based on that. Old school was 2, IIRC - fully extended or collapsed.

Honestly, I didn't even realize that my army issue was different from most commercially available mil-spec tubes until I read it and wouldn't notice if I had one with more or less. I just move it til it feels best.

I have the UCIW on both of my SBR AR-15s and I like it. But it depends on what your intended purpose is.

FWIW I never run either gun with the stock fully collapsed so....

ETA:

The RMR was put on there for somewhere to put it. It will likely either live on a pistol or correct height mount.

The A-5 IMO is a great upgrade. 7 Position, Extra 1 1/2 inches longer than a Standard Vltor.

You didn't specify if you want more or less positions. But A5 for more (7) and Colt for less. (4)
