Just saying hello I recently convinced my wife that I need a rifle, not sure how that happened but here I am.
I purchased a new stag arms stripped lower in 5.56 and a stag flat top upper. That's as far as I am right now, ive been lurking here for a little while and finally get to start my own. So many options not really sure where to start which was fun when playing with gunstruction but now ive got to actually buy stuff my head is about to blow. These are my plans so for any thoughts are welcome. spikes lpk (possibly cmc trigger) spikes buffer and adj stock 15" barrel (undecided brand) pws break the gas block and tube im dumb to so ill be doing a lot of searching/researching. Thanks for the look and any help is appreciated '08 |

Gas tube will be dependent on the location of the gas port on the barrel. (mid, car, or rifle gas system) As far as I know, there isn't really much difference in the tube itself other than the length. Of course, there may be others here that know more than me on this subject. Also, what the other guy said, avoid an aluminum gas block and consider an adjustable block. |

This is his first build. Keep it simple. I would avoid an adjustable gas block unless you have a specific need for it, like building a super light gun with a very light BCG etc. Standard parts work well 99.9% of the time.
ETA: I'd recommend a mid-length gas system, they're soft shooting. But carbine works fine too. |

Welcome to the BRD. (black rifle desease) I am looking for the rehab forum...
Barrel/Gas/Block/muzzle Cold Hammer Forged is considered best. Chromoly is great if chrome lined. Government or Medium profile is popular for all applications and carry. 14.5" will need to pin your PWS. 16" is best for your first one, in my opinion. Mid-Length gas, either way, these shoot softer. Steel or stainless steel Gas Block. Set screw configuration is better than clamp. (BCM and DD both utilize this) Gas tubes only differ in length and finish- SS, Melonite etc... Match your gas tube length to your barrel gas port location as mentioned ie. mid mid/ carbine carbine/ rifle rifle Freefloat style handguard is a must today. Go cheap here--- and be disappointed. KeyMod is becoming the new norm. A 16" barrel allows you to swap muzzle devices easily and whenever you choose to try different ones. (believe me, this will make sense after you shoot a while) Good luck and ask questions!!!! |
