(not sure if this is the proper place to post, please note if not)

I've built an AR not too long ago, and I was wondering, if I should come to sell it (which I really, really don't want to) what sort of value it would hold on the market, or... what I should ask for it.  Again I am NOT selling it here, and hopefully not at all.  Just some basic questions of, what would YOU pay for it? Or what would you place it's value at? I'm new to this forum, just a general question.  I should also mention I built the gun last year in october, and I have roughly 400 rounds through it.

The details on my rifle are the following,

Lower: Standard new, forged lower from palmetto state armory (bullet pictogram)

Upper: PSA cold hammer forged 16" http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/ar-15-05/barreled-upper-assemblies/blemished-psa-16-hammer-forged-midlength-upperpper.html (mine was purchased new however)

Handguard: Black ALG defense 12" tubular rail http://algdefense.com/12-ergonomic-modular-rail-black.html (yankee hill machine low profile gas block)

Stock: Magpul ACS-L milspec black

Grip: Magpul MOE+ AR15 grip

Muzzle device: Yankee Hill machine phantom comp

BCG: AIM surplus NIB BCG http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx?item=XAIMNiBBCGV2

Iron Sights: Magpul mbus PRO front and rear sights

Optic: Primary arms red dot, (with absolute co-witness riser) https://www.primaryarms.com/Primary_Arms_Micro_Dot_Removable_Base_with_Flip_p/md-ad.htm

Nothing is worth the sum of it's parts. Photo didn't load. Just from reading it I would say 600 to 650 without the optic. Remember you can buy new Colts for 850. so they say. I paid 649 for a WW SRC at Wallyworld during the Holidays. Frankenguns seldom retain any value unless there is an event that triggers the buyers to buy.

I won't buy someone elses build. Well, assembly, no one builds anything anymore.

Its a buyers market so its difficult to recover your money unless ypou can find someone who wants exactly what your offering which are few and far between.
You maybe better off returning it to a stock configuration and selling the extras separately.

If you would need to sell your best bet will be to part it out.  I have built and sold a few AR's and I never get what I put in to them.  I do however make out better if I would part it out and sell the parts separately.  There is always someone looking to but a specific part with a few dollars off retail for a quality used part.  People don't usually want to buy a used frankenbuild.  That said I have 3 frankenbuilds and no off the shelf rifles.  I prefer to assembly my rifles to my spec from the get go.

Franken guns not built by a well reputed shop (like Rainer arms) have little value to guys that are into ARs.

Their best dollar value comes from parting it out or selling it to someone who doesn't know any better.

Agreed. Id call it a $600 rifle as it sits, and in my eyes that's being generous.

I do appreciate the info guys.  I'm sure... given how much that I've shot the rifle that it's a solid build.  But also given that I have a little over $900 into it, I just don't think I'd be willing to part with it, partially because It's set up to just how I'd like it, and also because I'm proud of the build.  But I do very much appreciate your thoughts and suggestions.

Yeah, About $550-600 with the current market and that is probably a little high. Welcome aboard.

I bought a S&W Sport, moved the upper to a budget build lower and used the M&P lower for a frankenbuild. Have $2600 into the one gun, but no way would anyone pay that much for it second hand, especially with how many rounds I have through it. Value is in the eye of the beholder, especially with brand snobs. You could probably make more breaking it down and selling it that way, like parting out an old car that selling whole would only get you $300, parting it could net $1000.

I would put your AR at about $500 second hand, and a big part of that is because the market is so saturated and cheap right now for gun parts.
