New member with a tired question.  I did a search first, but I would still appreciate feedback.

I have a BCM 16" KMR-13 upper.  New to the AR world, and I need a lower.  My thoughts are as follows:

1) Purchase a complete BCM lower to match & be done for now (if I can find one + FFL fees etc)

2) Buy a striped lower and LPK and watch YouTube/read in order to put it together

3) Purchase whatever brand of a complete lower to mate  (don't like pictorials & color fill)

I have read lower receivers aren't as important (brand) and most will be just fine; conversely, I also read "you get what you pay for" and
"buy once, cry once."  I'm not looking to complete on the cheap, but I also do not need a $600 complete lower or billet.  I do not need a Les Baer lower, but I do want a quality receiver.  I have looked at BCM, Rainier, Spikes, Seekins, Umbrella Company, PSA, & Battle Arms.  Any thoughts and/or recommendations?

Thank you very much .

Thank you for the replies.

So, it sounds like buy whatever lower & use the linked tutorial to put it all together.

Is there a difference in LPK quality?  If I buy a Spikes, PSA, Daniel Defense, or "Joe Schmoe" LPK,  am I paying for a name or differences in quality?  Does it really matter?

You have a BCM upper, it would be nice to mate it to a BCM lower.  You then basically have a "factory" BCM rifle.

This link pulls up a BCM lower for $370.  Maybe a little more than some others, but seems worth it for the end result.

there are milspec LPK's and they are about all the same. If you want a better trigger, you can get a 2 stage. I wont recommend one, because I don't use one.  Then there are a few types of higher end single stage ones, that someone will tell you about, or you can read some more on here.

you are going to need a stock too.  I built the last 3 rifles using used stocks I got off the EE here. mostly they are not used, just take offs when guys change them out. make sure there is a buffer tube, buffer and spring that come with the stock, or I just want to make you aware that if its not included the price should reflect that.

I know this is my first post but been lurking here for almost two years. Working on 4 th build. I have had really good luck with Aero Precision lowers and right now the price is hard to beat.

I like to use Spikes lpk to get started and then upgrade the trigger to match the purpose of the build.

If you are going to use the COMPLETE  LPK, I suggest the DD LPK. Their quality is more standard than some of the others, Along with a decent trigger. But if you are just going to install a high dollar trigger from the get-go then just buy a cheaper priced LPK.

In addition to the other links I always point folks to the Brownells AR 15 building videos.  What's really nice about them is they break the entire process down into a series of subsystems, so that each is its own 1-3 min video.  Start at the beginning and by the time you get through them all you've got a complete rifle.  I watched them over and over and over before I ever started putting the first part in, and by the time I actually started the build it was like I'd been doing it forever.

Beyond that they are a site sponsor so I made a point of throwing some business their way for providing the vids for free.

Welcome!

If you want a "Comete Factory" look then get a BCM lower. If that isn't important get what you like. There are lots of lowers with custom roll marks & some offer custom engraving.

My . 02 on LPK's: I usually piece them together now because I use different take down pins & triggers so I see no reason to spend the extra to get parts I don't want to pay for. You can get bad parts at any time but any major company should be GTG.

+1 just bought a lower exactly like that one with an installed Geissele SSA-E, and the ergonomics of the stock/grip are great, as is the fit and finish.

I agree with this. Another site sponsor is G & R Tactical and they also sell the BCM Lower and you can also pick trigger and stock you want with it for a good deal.

I think you meant Rainier Arms. G&R is not on this site.

If you already have the BCM stock and grip, then I'd do this: Buy the complete lower shown below. Swap out both the stocks and the grips a few times to see which you like best (the B5 SOPMOD Bravo is very similar to the BCM Gunfighter stock, and the BCM Mod 3 grip is extremely similar to the B5 P-Grip 23). When you've determined which stock/grip combo you like best, you can either keep the others for your next build or sell them rather easily for $50 - 60 total and have a very sweet $150 complete lower.

If it were me, I'd sell the extra stock and grip to fund an ALG ACT trigger. It'll also be good experience for you to install this yourself. You'd also have a spare trigger for the parts bin, which is always nice to have.
