I have several AR's, My oldest and most used is a Bushmaster lightweight that has had a set of fixed rear sight with a Eotech on a riser for a nice lower 1/3 rd co witness. I just picked up another EoTech that has the raised base to use on another AR that I just put together ( complete upper and stripped lower). This has a folding rear sight (PSA). With either the EoTech with the riser or the one with the raised base the sight picture with the irons is very low, much lower than my Bushmaster. These all have fixed front posts.
My question is: Are there different height sights? Are the front fixed sights different heights? Is the front sight on my Bushmaster higher than the PSA upper? I have been using AR's since the 80's (Uncle Sam first gave me one with triangle hand-guards and a 3 prong flash hider in basic) And my bushy dates from several years ago.  I have not yet switched the rear sight from the bushmaster to see if it is the difference, I have only function fried the PSA and have not yet sighted it in.

believe original A2 sight was shorter than current F marked FSB's (M4?)

This seems counter to what I am seeing? The newer upper the sights seem lower when I am looking for a 1/3 co witness.
