Kinda new to AR's, but can anyone explain why the holes in the heat shield match the holes in the handguards on a carbine AR, but on the A2 the heatshield only has holes about half way down ? I also noticed the mid length, the last two holes in the handguards don't have matching holes in the heat shield. Is there a reason for this ? Why wouldn't the heat shield have holes matching the handguard holes the entire length ? -Thanks

I would guess it's because the existing holes are sufficient to dissipate the required heat and drilling extra holes would be a waste.
