Do to my inexperience, my questions here have been pretty disjointed.
I have an S&W MP15 sport which now has a two piece carbine quad rail.
I would now like to replace the A2 sight with a rail height gas block.
What I do not know is if the end cap is part of the sight assembly.
Since the quad rail clamps to it, it seems certain that could be a problem.

The end cap is separate from the FSB.

Thanks.  Relieved to hear that.

Although your question was answered, I have my own.
Why?
What would you do with a rail there, except mount another site?

Sorry I missed your question.

I am just not very fond of the A2 sight, sort of bulky and clunky.

It occurred to me that the rail height gas block was a way to get a little more rail space
from the carbine length for not much money to use pair of alloy flip up sights.

I admit that there is not a lot of benefit to the mod.

P.S. On my other AR, I am going to do a 12" free float and use the pair Magpul flip up sights.

Think about cutting down your front sight to a low profile gas block.  You end up with a great gas block and can use whatever rail you want.  Yes it means spending some money on a freefloat rail, but the railed gas block is not the direction I would go.  If you do go that route, then make sure you purchase the proper height railed gas block.
