Newb, to the site and AR platform. Am about to order PSA SS 16" kit. Is 16" dimension the barrel length including threaded portion/flash hider? Unfortunately I am in NJ and have to deal with illegality of threaded barrel without having hider pinned and welded full circumference. Would consider removing hider and threads if I can still meet the 16" minimum barrel length. Desperately want to get this build underway but want to avoid buying parts I can't use.

If advertised as 16" barrel it should be 16" without flash hider.

He's saying he wants to remove the hider AND threads.
It wouldn't be 16" with the threads removed.

Why not wait and buy a 14.7" pinned to 16" from them?

Buy a 14.5 or 14.7 and pin and weld on your own comp/hider to get to 16"+..

Buy a pre-drilled Spikes comp or something.. then pop the supplied PIN in the hole and mig weld with a cheapy HF mig welder and be done..

If you have a buddy with a small welder even a 25 amp one it will do the job.. just cover EVERYTHING you don't want singed with leather..

The other option.. find a 2"+ brake and do this (just remember you lose a 9/16" of the new brake covering the threads)..

Drill a hole..

Tap the hole with 6-32 or 8-32 tap/drill set (Irwin)

Buy 8-32 x 3/16" screw at HD or Lowes.

The weld, clean up with dremel, and paint over the spot..

Really appreciate all of the input! I have access to everything I need at work, drill press, hardware, even the welding, problem is Jersey requires that the hider be welded the full circumference of the barrel, or have no threads...just pinned and welded doesn't make the cut as I know it. Considering a 16" barrel and just have the threads machined (lathe) off.

You would also need to recrown the barrel.
I would just look for a "post ban" barrel.

What about just ordering a barrel pin and welded already?  There are several site sponsors that do that for you.

Not true for NJ.. I lived in NJ for 35 years.. this rifle (shown) and a few others I have done were all from NJ..

Its pin/weld with tool steel (which is the pin supplied with say Spikes Comps and a few others)

No flash hiders are allowed though.. just Brakes/Comps.. The PWS series has a combo that meets the Comp requirement.. Try NJgunforums for more info (I'm on their too)..

Anyone else is feeding you BS..
