I let my wife shoot the AR15 yesterday and while shooting, and this morning, she complained about pain. Yesterday she had some very slight bruising/redness but today it seems to be mostly gone (although she's still a little sore). From watching her shoot, it seemed like she had the weapon in the proper position, I told her to keep it snug against her and to lean forward a little. We were shooting standard 5.56 XM193.
She only shot a few rounds so I'm a little surprised she feels sore from such a light recoil rifle. Does anyone have any tips on how I can ensure she's shouldering it properly? If it makes a difference, she was shooting from a sitting position on a bench with the front of the rifle resting on a small sandbag. Also, I was thinking about swapping out the standard M4 stock for something with a cushioned buttpad. Most likely the B5 SOPMOD but I'm not sure how much this would help. Putting on a muzzle brake would be another option but it's a pinned 14.5" barrel so that presents more issues (and cost). |
| She probably rested it against her collarbone. When you are on a bench or prone the rifle stock can fit in a "pocket" that your shoulder makes. It's lower than you would expect but just go prone and put the rifle against your shoulder and move it down until it feels like it's only pushing against flesh. It shouldn't be resting on the bone at all. Once you find the "pocket" pull it in snug and tight. |

Try a different stock. I have the B5 Sopmod Bravo which is the slimmed down version of the Sopmod, and it feels better and softer then my old Standard MOE. My guess is your wife is a lil sensitive, but then again my wife is very sensitive and has had no issues with my AR. Like others have said it could be here collar bone. ETA: No I did not get a new stock it cause the MOE hurt me.
