Just picked up my new S&W M&P 15 Sport from my FFL.  Bought it from ImpactGuns for special $599 free shipping.
I'm pleased and now I ve got to determine what is the best value "bang for the buck" in plinking/range ammo for it. I want to stay with brass cased and something that is budget priced and available on line. Prefer to buy up a bit before prices get higher or another shortage occurs.
If anyone else has this rifle or familiar with it chime in!  Thanks

If you want to stay with brass, go to gunbot.net and look for 223 Wolf Gold...

I will second this. Wolf Gold 55 Grain for cheap but reliable and accurate 223 55 grain. If you're looking for 62 Grain, PMC X-TAC Green Tip are excellent rounds for the price.

Welcome to Arfcom!

M&P Sport was my first AR, and it has been a great rifle. You will definitely enjoy it, it has everything you need and nothing you don't.

It did give me BRD though

Hello all, im new to this forum and probably asking this question in the wrong thread! I just started shooting my buddies AR about 3-6 months ago, i haven't had HANDS ON practice with them before that but i have been studying them for many years. Including researching and contemplating my own custom builds.  He has a standard Colt LE 9620 w/Knightarmco rear BUIS (200m-600m) and the standard A2 front sight.  I verified all adjustments were squared away before we started sending rounds down range, however i'm not CONSISTENTLY getting 1"-1 1/2" groups at 50 yards.  More like 6"-9" clusters.  Could any one recommend some pointers/tips to help me get more consistent groups.  We are shooting from a rest, thats the embarrassing thing  Thanks in advanced.......

Welcome and congrats on the Colt. Probably best that you start your own thread so this one isn't hijacked.

OP, you'll find a lot of good brass ammo. I'm shooting a lot of Independence and American Eagle 55 grain these days. Most recently, it's going for around $7.50 per box of 20. S&W makes a fine AR. My first was the M&P OR and it's still one of my favorites.

Thanks for your advice on the ammo and for your votes of approval on the M&P 15 sport.  I didnt mention but I first bought the M&P15-22 back almost a year ago and have been wanting it's 'big brother' since so now I've got them both
Now to learn about the gun...so I really appreciate this forum and youtube videos.

You didn't mention the 15-22 but that's how I got caught up in this never ending cycle of building and buying ARs also. The 15-22 is the ultimate gateway rifle. I got it, loved it, shot it and one day, a guy at the range with an AR checked it out. He liked it and commented that it was "cute". The next day I had my M&P OR in hand and I was learning more about the AR than I ever thought I would.

Just checked my crystal ball and it told me your next step is a stripped lower receiver...
