Today I took one of favorite A2 family's of carbines, the Model 723 to the range. Started out as a M16A1 parts kit then took it from there. I stole the idea from a 1988 Colt brochure that someone here posted with 723 and 733 Commando. Upper is a Colt marked C H receiver. I added the oversized FA button which was on the brochere. BCG is all Colt. The barrel is a Daniel Defense LW 14.5" that John Thomas added a spacer then pinned and welded. Lower Nodak Spud M16A1, with Colt LPK. Stock is Colt marked N1. Nodak Spud two position extension with NOS Colt extension nut.

This rifle runs great, and is more accurate than my late 50's eyes can keep up with. The target shown is a 100yd bench shooting which is fine by me. Thought I'd  share.

Holy Wow.  I love that carbine and that looks like you're within 6", maybe even smaller?  Crikeys.  That some good shooting for 100 yards.  I can't see crap with a carbine sight radius.  Last time I shot at 100 with my M4gery, I had to use a 25 yard zero and hold low so I could sort of see what I was doing.    And I didn't do that well.  Although it wasn't horrible.  LOL.

There was some off hand and a few 9mm from my G26 too.

I was going to say you need this:

But in actuality, you don't need anything.  That's some good shooting.  What ammo?

If you would've went with an A1 20"er, you'd be chewing a 1 holer out.

That looks great.  I have one nearly the same with a 4 pos ext and a normal FA.

Thanks JJ. I do struggle somewhat using carbines with the shorter sight radius. Still not ready for optics yet. The ammo I used this time was bulk loose packed Federal M193 ammo. Pretty good stuff that's not too dirty either. But I give most of the credit to Daniel Defense. They make fantastic barrels. Glad I found this 14.5" LW when Brownells was blowing them out for $189 last year.

Well you done good.  With the build and the shooting.  I like the sling set up too.  That would be a handy SHTF gun with a light on it.

I'm taking in an Aimpoint PRO on trade and I'll see if it helps me much.  I hate adding that much weight, but.....  I don't have the money for a T-1 and this is what I got.  I wish my eyes were like they were when I was young.  LOL.   I think a really sweet set up would be a fixed carry handle with a little Mini Red Dot sight on top.  Like the delta point.  Wouldn't add too much weight and it's small enough that it wouldn't be too bad sticking off the top.  Still kind of handy.  You start putting big optics on a carry handle and it kind of ruins the whole sleekness.  LOL.

Nice work!!  Really like the attention to the small bits, well done.

I was torn between a 723 and a GAU, ended up with the GAU because the 727 was too close in my mind to my early 727 upper....
however if the GAU turns into a XM type, then there just might be room for another upper :)
