Okay so I picked this upper up a couple months ago and am wanting to finish it. Is there anyway to make my lower match the color of this upper? I have a colt a1 stock and a a2 which would be correct? Also what are the marks on the front of the upper from? I am trying to make this build match the wear that is on the upper. Could I soda blast the parts to give them the battlefield wear? Here are some pictures of the upper. I need a forward assist and a shell ejection cover still but I would like them to match the upper. The sight does not match but I have an old carry handle that I can strip the sight off of that matches pretty well. I only paid $165 for the upper and the barrel gauged at a 4. The rifling looks brand new but the exterior shows a lot of wear.

A2 stock would be "correct".  But I far prefer the length of an A1.  What I do on my A2 is I put an A1 stock with an A2 butt.  I prefer the A2 butt and looks wise it's hard to tell it's not an A2 stock.....

Have no clue what those marks are on the upper and matching is over rated.     I like the optic set up......  And the railed handgaurd....  Very nice...  It's weird to say but it's very "Invasion of Iraqish" and that's getting to almost be like retro.  Comparing it to all this newfangled stuff.  hehehehe

Thats a good idea I like the metal trap door better then the plastic one found on the A1. Also the shorter length of the A1 makes it more comfortable to shoot.  The somewhat retro without going full retro is what I am looking for. I have a A1 upper that I am wanting to build down the road as well. I though building clones was pricey and then I looked at the retro parts and prices and have held of from going balls to the wall on my retro builds that I want. I really like the Trijicon Reflex red dots and they are somewhat correct to that upper.

If you want to match the lower with a BFPU look, you could get a grey A2 lower from NoDak Spud and artificially age it with a file, some wet/dry sandpaper and steel wool.

Here's an example I did on one of my A1s:
