I recall seeing a free floated A2 h/g on a match rifle but my memory may fail me... Is there such a critter??

I shot an Armalite A2 20 inch in DCM matches that had a free floated barrel while utilizing the Mil-spec two piece handguard. Looks just like a delta ring standard rifle set up, but the float tube has the end cap welded to the combo barrel nut/tube. I looked at their website but the new website TOTALLY SUCKS COMPARED to the previous one. I found one for the AR 10, but have not located the AR 15 version yet. I would start there first.

EDIT: Found it. SKU EMNM04-1

Rock River and White Oak sells them

White Oak even make a mid length one too.

I like them as you can have a floated tube with Magpul hand guards on them

I would go with the Rock River one NM tube

For the simple fact that it is cheaper and comes with hand guards. I know for a fact the RR ones has a standard GI barrel nut

Thanks for the info! i love my Armalite stuff, but ever since the website change (and wasn't there an ownership change a little while ago) seems like Armalite has gotten out of commerce (higher priced, horrible new site) Glad to see alternatives.

jhud,  My local Gunsmith has a Used, but Not abused White Oak Armament NM FF Handguard Assembly,

Complete with Delta Ring, Weld Spring, Spring Clip and the original shiny Thermold Handguards in his display case for cheap.

The only thing I think that you would need that is special is the Gas Tube.  If you want his number, shoot me an IM or Email.

If Nanychief deal falls through Brownell's RRA FF for $100 is best new deal and has been for a while.  WOA products are also top flight but generally a few coins more.  FF is definitely worth a little something in accuracy on most builds especially once slings and distance become involved.  100 yds probably not going to show much over non float all else being equal.  For service rifle free float install probably going to have to cut off sling swivel from FSB but still looks correct from a couple feet. Armalite has some NM FF pieces on or in clearance section right now but last peek showed more coins than RRA and it's not worth any more coins.

When I was looking for the NM float tube Brownells was the cheapest I could find it. But Rock River had a sale with free shipping and 10% off.  The WOA tube is priced in the range as the RR is but the WOA doesnt come with the hand guards

Drop in, or what needs to be done to make them fit?

I'm curious how the free float tube works?

Could you use it and put a KAC 2 piece rail on similar to m16A4?

Whoah there! From what I understand, the KAC requires trimming with a dremel to fit a national match FF tube that fits under normal handguards. I suspect due to the very large heat shield that the MAGPUL Moe handguards would also fail to fit. Did the poster above have to mod those handguards?

Yes you can install a KAC rail with the proper work to get it to look issued, but perhaps a Larue 12.0 or a geissele Mk7 would be more fitting for the A2 in that it accomplishes the same goal, with less trouble.

Hey thanks for the reply.

Ah that makes sense. I currently have a build that I modeled after an A4.

So would be cool if I could maintain the rail but also have it be free floating.

All it took was to remove the heat shields and sand paper, but the dremel tool did speed things up. But basically what you have to do is remove material from the front of the hand guard so it will fit in the hand guard cap. Due to the larger diameter of the float tube.
The float tube is basically a round float tube with a hand guard cap and sling attachment welded on the end
