Gents,

I just purchased my first AR, an Armalite A2 model.  It seems that the square front sight posts is awful wide.  After looking around it looks like the earlier A1 sight post were a thinner round post (and I assume therefore a little more accurate).  Is there any advantage to the wider square post?  Any help would be appreciated.

The flat edges are better for light from the side. The wide blade on mine allows me to shade to either side if the wind changes. I'm a high power shooter, and I love the A2 sight.

You can get a thinner match post.   I wouldn't go to the round one for the reasons stated above.

The mil-spec on a rack grade rifle is 4MOA, I doubt a "thicker" front sight post is going to detract terribly from the accuracy of the rifle.

Gents,

Thanks for the good info, I appreciate your opinions.  I'll just leave well enough alone.
