I built a 727 clone years ago for a friend. I decided to build a full A2 rifle for myself because my other AR's are various carbines.

I bought a PSA stripped lower for $79 last summer and an FN upper here on the EE for about the same. I stalled on buying parts due to my wedding and honeymoon and by the time I had some money again everyone was in panic mode.
The majority of the parts were sourced from the EE and it came out to be just under $800!

I just got the last parts this week, so I could take my box-o-rifle and build it! I had the usual issues with the pivot pin detent and the barrel wrench slipped when I was aligning the barrel nut, so a couple teeth got a little messed up. If I ever re-barrel it I'll have to replace it. But all-in-all a very easy build.

A BIG thanks to Steelerfan6rfor helping me find an FN barrel and the majority of a LPK, among other various parts.

Highlights:
PSA lower, FN barrel, FN upper, CMT M16 BCG, Colt (I think) stock and a Franken-LPK

Anyone have any GI mags? All I have are PMAGs

Thanks, it's been a long time in the making. Bought the upper in May, the stock and lower in June and then nothing else until last month. I was patient and didn't cave to panic pricing. Granted this isn't a really 'tacticool' build, so I could fly a bit under the radar.

Welcome to the M16A2 clone club Sir!  I know the A2 will never be considered as retro or tacticool, but I still love them

Nice looking rifle. My next AR will be an A2 style. I have a stock, and was worried about the dark grey stock on an otherwise black rifle, but seeing how well it looks on yours, I'm not worried now.

Mine is damn near black in person. I would think so long as it's not that light colt gray you'd be fine with the black receivers. My flash hider is even a shade darker than the barrel. You're never going to get them all to match 100% without refinishing. I was just happy that the PSA  lower was almost an exact match for the FN upper.
