I have an A2 upper, not sure who the manufactuerer is. It has a sort of A symbol on the top of the carry handle.

Sounds like an Anchor Harvey "splintered A" forge mark. That's just who forged the upper, not who machined the final product

Exactly the mark on it. Thanks!

I see you identified who forged it, but how would you go about identifying the manufacturer that finsihed (and/or sold) it?

Unless there are other markings, it's pretty much impossible to tell who finished the receiver.

If you were the original owner who purchased it from a reputable dealer, or you bought it off a reputable person you probably would know who finished it. Barring markings or known origin in lieu of markings, it's impossible to know for sure.

Appreciate the info KBAD. I got it one a trade used, he said it was a Colt, it does have a Colt barrel on it.

Colt would have had a C stamped in front of the A more than likely.  If it functions fine and is in spec that's all that really matters.  From what I'm seeing in pic it looks nice and has a grey finish.  What marks are on the barrel?  Had a few original BM A-2 uppers with splintered A receiver but most all vendors have sold them from time to time.  Just not that many different foundrys in USA anymore.
