I'm new to this forum. I want to build an AR15. I need some guidance on the lower receiver. I'm not sure what to buy. Cast or Forged receiver? Small pin or large pin? Who makes a quality receiver?  Whose receivers is everyone using?

Thanks for your help. I know I can learn a lot on this forum.

Welcome.

Many here will say one or another brand is best.  I will say all are virtually the same.  There are very few companies that make most of them.

You want a small pin.  Almost all are small pin.  Colt made the large pins.  It was to keep people from being able to drop in full auto parts.  However, without a sear pin hole, that wouldn't work anyway.

I have used cast and forged receivers.  I couldn't tell you now which is which.

I have used Bushmaster, PWA, Templar, BPM, LMT, and probably several others that I cannot remember now.

All have worked well.

you want forged. unless its a older Colt upper it will be the regular pins. most the forged lowers sold today are good. find one you like and look on here or ask.
