So I'm moving moving my father out to CA and this particular lower is banned in CA... So what am I'm honestly looking at getting for this thing? He really wants one of the new Colt M4s (Since he can no long keep this one) so I'm thinking if I can get as close to that price wise as possible it would be best but honestly have no clue what this is worth. I've done searches and the prices are so varied its not even worth sorting through all the posts. Anyways, if anyone could shed some light on this for me it would be greatly appreciated. I didn't know where to post this and noticed a few appraisal threads on here, I apologize if this is the wrong area. Thanks.

Ballpark, $800-1000.

I would not think that high. That's the same price as the new M4 he wants (6920 < $1000). Also, its a large pin upper which people typically don't want. Also, my 6601 brand new just like 6 months ago was only $950. I'd think somewhere in the $500 to $800 range depending on round count.

The other option is how about you leave communist Kalifornia and move wherever your dad is?

Well hopefully I'll get 800 and only have to fork out a few hundred more for the M4... Thanks guys. And yes, I have thought about moving... not only for the gun laws.

You might get more if you part it out.

The receivers are selling for for $500 range alone.

How much would an upper go for? And by receiver alone do you mean without the stock assembly and LPK?

Low ball- $350.

Or $100-120 per major component.

The lower with trigger group..

Is there any way you could buy a newer lower reciever that is allowed in CA and then use most if not all of the lower parts from the Colt lower in the acceptable lower?  Then I'm sure someone would buy the stripped Colt lower and you may actually come out ahead in money spent/saved.

I was looking into that... the thing is I would need a new upper receiver as well as it has the larger hole in front, right?

He'd have to buy a new stripped lower and a new stripped upper, then cannibalize all the parts.  A modern lower is not going to work with the large-pin upper that his Dad's rifle has, without one of those pin conversion thingys.

So, OP, figure ~$200 for a new stripped upper and lower, maybe some tools, and your time.

Yeah G&R was selling the CA legal Colt M4s for $250 lower and $190 upper and $100 LPK so $540 total... plus I would need a new charging handle and I could keep the same BCG, right? Hmmmmmm almost seems like I should just buy the new AR for $1100 and try and sell the whole rifle for $600 and suck up the $500 for the headache? Hmmmmmm

The bushing is about 3-4 dollars and the cost of the M-4 lower as priced by the OP was 250.  Personally thats probably the way I would go.
