How do I get a front site base/gas block off the barrel if it has a permanantly attached flash suppresor?

easy answer––you dont get it off unless you break the flash hider free then use ur dremel to "recut" the threads mainly just clean them up but after that ur going to be "illegal" unless you reattache the flash hider permanately so um well goodluck

Thanks for the answer. That is what I thought. I could use that dremmel to cut the old one off, then put a YH 2 piece gas block to go back on.

I just got my (used) AR yesterday and I'm in the same boat as you, cause I want a scope but don't want it to be stuck way high. I'm leaning towards just cutting the sight off the gas block while still n the rifle.

If your scope is more than 4 power, you wont see the FSB at all.

do they have permanent muzzle devices because of length or are they ban era barrels? If ban era, sell them to someone that still resides in a communist run state and buy a barrel set up the way you want.

Will another type of mount be needed to attach to the rail or will just high rings works. I want to put a 3x9x40 Leupold that I did have on my mini,I generally had the power on 6. Don't mean to bump into someone else's post but like I said I'm in the same boat. Thanks

+1, I've got a rifle with a standard A2 FSB on it, and a 3-9x variable power scope mounted on one of the RRA one-peice mounts.  The one peice mount puts the scope right at about carry handle level.

At 3x I sometimes notice the "shadow" of the front sight base, and even then, it's usually only if I look for it instead of concentrating on the target.  At 9x I don't think I've ever noticed it.

ring heights vary, but I think you want Ultra Highs to get you to the same height as the sights on an AR, or you could put the scope in a Larue, RRA, Armalite, Primary Arms, etc. one piece mount.  Warne sells scope rings specifically for use on an AR-15 flat top, other may also.

I've tried a few different AR scope mounts over the years and the Rock River hi-rise for $50 is as good as any unless you want something real pricey like a LaRue with quick detach.  Lots of options out there and some just like rings.  Hi-rise rings will be fine as stated above.  I prefer the one piece mount.  Get it snug,  zero in scope and let the good times roll.  I've never seen a FSB in my picture but I use at least 3x.  Check some of the varmit rig pics here but you can't go wrong with the RRA for the money.  A little electrical tape will hide the white lettering also.  I've had good luck drilling out permanent welds on FH also.  Need to be careful but it's not hard to do.  Guess it depends on who you are following behind.

Got it done with the riser on top of the pictanny rail and the high mounts even on 3x I can only see a faint shadow below and my cheek touches nice and firm on the stock. Thanks for the advice,my total cost with tax was $64
