Well guys, I'll post pics here soon but I wanted to ask what you thought of an M16A2 type rifle I put together a while back. I did it kind of the lazy way so I wanted your opinions to be sure I did it right.....I bought a Colt MT6700, NIB. Removed the upper and replaced it with a new take off 1990's dark gray Colt complete M16A2 upper. The color mismatch between upper/lower is not really noticeable due the the upper being such a dark shade of gray, more of a flat black (got lucky there). The lower is new enough to have the mil spec pins and push pivot pin as well. So...the weapon is all Colt, just marked Match Target Competition HBAR on the side of the magwell. I also have the orginal full auto Colt carrier group installed (came with the NOS upper).

I did it the lazy way, but it looks nice, works, and is all NIB Colt/NOS Colt. Barrel of course is a govt profile 1/7 "C MP" Colt.

I figure this is as close as I'll get to a Colt M16A2....your thoughts?

That is as close as you can come to an issue A2 - other than the irony that IIRC, the first Army contract for A2s went to FN.

Way too much work. I was lazy, and bought a Colt 6651 instead. Avoids the need to find components. Plus neither my barrel nor my lower say "HBAR".

That is the closest you will get. A 6551 has the correct barrel, but it has no flash suppressor, no bayonet lug, it has large FCG pins, and the pivot pin is the screw type.
