I am looking to build my first piston AR. I like the Osprey design.
Where does the piston system have the most noticeable impact - where would I enjoy it the most? : 16" barrel carbine gas port, 16-18" barrel mid-length gas port or 18" - 20" barrel rifle gas port?
Thanks for your input.

Only input I can give you is I have a midlength kit on my 16" heavy target crowned barrel.  Works flaslessly.  Rifle cleaning is now about as easy as cleaning my glock.  Going out this weekend to sight in scope and check for accuracy out of it.

Do you find it makes the rifle smoother and less kick?

Not particularly, but like I said, it's a heavy barrel with no muzzle device on it, just a bare target crown.  So there's nothing helping to keep the muzzle down other than the weight of the barrel.  Kind of an unfair comparison of it to a standard barrel DI gun with a break/comp on the end of it.  However that is also a mid length and they do tend to be a tad bit smoother than a carbine length, to me anyway.

Another vote for a Mid  Lenght Osprey.
