I thinking of getting a piston ar15  an was wondering which one is the better manufacture to go with? PWS or LWRC?

you better buckle up. lots of opinions heading this way.

of those 2 listed, i've only owned LWRC's, M6A3 18" and the newer M6 IC SPR 14.7". both work the same, just different return spring designs. both work really well for me and i have over 5000 through the a3 and its still shooting about 1.25MOA for me with 77gr SMK's.

they are just heavy forkers and i run vltor a5 buffer systems with their h3 and h4 buffers to tame the carreir speed.

i like the concept of the long op rod in the pws through. contemplating trying one someday.

2 PWS and 1 LWRC all sbr'd - no issues with any of them and shoot them more than any AR's I own.
Honestly, I am bias towards the PWS because of the service they have provided me on other items and their history in Idaho. You can not go wrong with either.
Best of luck.

Have a lwrc ic and it's been amazing so far, no direct experience with pws

I made the awful mistake of buying a PWS mod 0.
Heavy, over-gassed that it burns your eyes to shoot suppressed, and because it's no mil spec I have no way to fix it.

I realize they've probably fixed a lot of those issue, and I'm frustrated with the amount of time, money and effort I've put into that upper.
I've decided to try and modify the gas system this past week.
It's helping, but it's also like re-opening a scabbed over wound.

I may end up just pulling off all my goodies, throw on a cheap scope and have worlds most expensive truck gun.

IMO, the LWRC uppers are over gassed too. one particular A3 16" upper i had was so bad i just had he barrel cut down to 12.5" and used it on my SBR. i didnt change the gas port size and it was much better.

i really dont fault the design, there are plenty of DI barrels that are over gassed too. the obsession to shoot weak 223 ammo ruins it for those of us that dont.

I'd PWS or POF over LWRC because A) LWRC are way overpriced.  All piston ARs are expensive, but LWRC takes the cake in that contest.  B) From what I've seen, LWRC customer service leaves something to be desired.  The only thing they have that I really like is their 6.8 receiver sets, but those require more proprietary parts so you lose on some customization options.

True, but if it's standard DI an adjustable gas block is an easy fix.

I've pretty much replace the PSW as the primary host of my one 5.56 can with upper I built with and SLR AGB and one of their Hybrid rails.
So much lighter, so much less recoil and no gas face (I'm sure there is some, but compared to what I was used to, it feels like none).

Then I saw the POF Renegade + about two months ago and had to have one :-)
Haven't even shot it yet. Trying to decide on optics.

I hope AGB's will become more common on factory rifles. IMHO they should.

I own 2 LWRCs. A bare bones M6SL Lightweight and a UCIW. Both are fantastic rifles. Utterly dependable and reliable.Fit and finish are TOP notch.

While I don't own a PWS, I have looked them over and would say you couldn't go wrong with either. They are both top shelf piston rifles.

Both are solid choices and either will serve you well. At the end of the day, you should try to find a method to handle/feel both, even better if you can find friends/ranges to rent or try them out.

Personally, it came down to features, that made me choose one over the other. I used to own a PWS 12.5 setup, that I eventually sold.

Do you prefer the keymod rail system or the screw on rail panel design of LWRC?

An adjustable gasblock with 3 positions (For new PWS setups) which requires a tool/bullet tip to change or the 2 positions of the LWRC (assuming you go IC-E or A5) that can be manipulated by hand?

How important is weight to you? The PWS is noticeably lighter, thanks mostly to their lighter weight barrel profile. The LWRC will always feel heavier, even with the spiral fluted barrel.

Thanks

My preference is LWRCi and honestly it is the only one I have owned and shot. If you can shoot both before you buy then you should do that. You can't go wrong with either one. Good luck!

I have a p415. Takes longer for the handgaurd to heat up, no return spring makes for less parts, and the gen4 receivers are hard to beat.

POF has been more inovative with the ar platform than any other company lately.

How's the heftyness of the handguard feel for you? I really enjoy the looks of that POF and really want to get one, but I'm a touch worried that handguard is gonna feel to fat. I've looked at the pws but just have a hard time liking the keymod look.

Stick a vertical fore grip on it. Problem solved.

FWIW: POF's designs could use a bit of a visual diet. The design has a visual heft that makes their .556s look almost as beefy and heavy as a .309 AR10.

Mine had a railed bottom that made it fat and uncomfortable. I do not use fore grips or anything other a sling mount on the bottom of the rail so I milled the bottom rail off. Now the handgaurd feels right in my hand. I don't use the C clamp method when I hold my rifle so the high top part of the rail doesn't concern me.

Buis have to be micro and I run the low mount spacer that came with my PRO to make it absolute cowitness. I use a cheek riser but some people don't so it depends on your distance between you cheek and eye. My stock is always extended so I don't run it issues with the charging handle hitting the riser

The design of the barrel nut and handgaurd keeps it from getting too hot after mag dumps in semi auto and not sure about full auto.

I didn't like the POF gen3 revceier so I sold it and used an L15 I had. I had a chance to use a POF gen4 and it is leaps and bound better than the gen3 or any than I have see so far.

This may have already been covered somewhere else and I just have not found it yet.  I want to build a pistol type AR 15 in 5.56 with a piston system.  Can anyone give me some advice on barrels and which piston system is better SA, AA, Osprey?  I am not opposed to a 14.5 barrel but I dont want it any longer.

Thank you

Keith

Black Rifle Arms can build you a piston upper out of your own choice of upper receiver, barrel, and bolt using their own piston and BCG.  You should look them up.

Thank you. I have never heard of them, but Ill go take a look.  I was thinking about doing all the work myself, but I'm open to other suggestions.
