Why?  Because I want to.  But I'm not entirely sure how it's going to work.

Outside of the bolt carrier and the bolt, what needs to be lefty-specific?  What's piston-specific?

Stag has a LH BCG in their web store.  It says it's not piston compatible.  The bolt they sell separately says it is compatible.  This is because of the gas key needing to be different?  I was told Adams Arms made some type of conversion piece but I don't see it.  But stage offers their 8L piston rifle in 6.8 so they make the parts.  I put in an email to their customer service to find out if I could buy what I need.  It's correct that everything forward of the BCG is the same regardless of righty/lefty?  What else am I overlooking?

Thanks in advance bros for helping me make this oddball idea come to life.

Stag makes a full LH6.8 rifle and can buy 6.8 left hand bolts from them.

I contacted Adams Arms (to make sure I'd be ordering the right items) and explained what I wanted to do (using the Stag LH 6.8 BCG) and I was told repeatedly they couldn't help me out.  I even asked how a gas block is right/left dependent and the rep replied with this.  It's like the guy couldn't be bothered to listen.

The gas block would be the same, but the carrier is proprietary and only rotates for a right side eject.

Thank You for contacting Adams Arms.

Best Regards,
Xxxxx

Clearly he didn't want to sell me anything and had no interest in helping out.  I just didn't bother responding after three straight messages that amounted to "go away".  I'll have to be pretty desperate for something to purchase any of their products in the future.

I think the problem is going to find a piston carrier thats for a South paw shooter. I know superlative arms and Adams arms retro kits have a proprietary carrier that has the key milled. The only way you could get one of their kits to work is by having them specifically mill you the key to fit on a Stag lefty carrier or mill a full lefty carrier. Basically it's going to cost a lot, if they will do it. I like the idea of a lefty piston carrier.  Why not just do a DI lefty 6.8 it would be easier?

I hear you.  DI is the easy way to go.  But part of the fun for me in building is doing whatever oddball things are appealing.  I've got basic AR's out of the box already so keeping it simple is somewhat boring.  I can't tell you exactly why I want this to be a piston build, but I can agree that if it's a big hassle and cost then DI is the clear option.

Stag seems to offer LH 6.8 piston rifles so that would mean parts exist to make it happen.  I was hoping to buy from places that actually offered the parts for sale rather than having to beg Stag to sell me a kit without buying a full upper/rifle.  It's starting to look like they're the only option.  The other step is contacting the place I got the LH upper (and piston bushing) from to see what alternatives they're aware of.

Screw it.  I'm going with DI and save the piston idea for a future build.
