| Ordered a Superlative Arms Clamp On Retrofit Piston Kit for a 204 Ruger upper build yesterday. Barrel is a 20" Lilja with rifle length gas system. I would like to use a Geissele Mk 8 handguard to match another upper I already have. According to the dimensional drawing on the Superlative Arms website the Geissele should fit. I was unable to find a compatible handguard list on the Superlative Arms website. An email to Superlative Arms has not been answered yet. Any experience or thoughts? Thanks, Vic |
| Tony Russo is the guy to contact. He is very helpful. I was concerned about my superlative arms kit too with an slr rail. He did say that if fitment is a potential issue the set screw style block is best. I would imagine that the one you have should work with that rail. The kit is awesome by the way, Shot 100 rounds through it and had practically no fouling on the BCG or bolt. |
| After some phone tag I finally talked with Tony Russo this afternoon. He has had difficulty getting good dimensional information from Geissele on the handguards. I got out the digital calipers and measured my old Geissele Mk 8 handguard and sent a sketch to Tony Russo. He thought I might have interference with the socket head cap screws supplied with the Superlative clamp on kit and the side of the bottom "channel" of the Geissele rail. I had this problem with the old rail and a clamp on Syrac Ordinance gas block. Solved the problem by replacing the supplied socket head cap screws with alloy steel button head screws. It fits ok now with no interference and is very solid. I believe the same "fix" would work with the Superlative kit. Russo said they were waiting on supplier parts and it might be a month before my kit will ship. I have all the parts on hand to build a DI setup except for a rifle length gas tube. Russo commented that on a rifle length gas system (which the Lilja barrel has} It will probably work as well DI as with a piston. I think I'll go ahead and set it up as a DI to break in the barrel and get some range time with it. The Lilja barrel arrived today. Looks real good! Is you SA kit clamp-on or set screw? You realize that the MI website says your handguard is "Not for use on gas piston AR's".

Received an email from Tony Russo today. My Superlative Arms piston kit has finally shipped! In the interim I set up the new upper as DI to break in the barrel and to see if there were any functioning problems. I haven't shot it a lot, but it is 100% reliable so far with 40 gr VMax Fiocchi factory loads. Parts used:
